Analyze the Ethical Behavior of Correction Officers

Inmate abuse, corruption, violence, and inmate deaths have been reported throughout the last decade. Now, imagine you observe this incident as a training officer in a jail in the United States. An inmate with mentally illness died after being left in an overheated cell. Since the closure of many mental health institutions, jails are housing a large population of inmates with mental illness.

In many jails and prisons, the sanitary conditions are inhumane, with raw sewage spilling out of the toilets. Officers handed out diluted detergent to the inmates to reduce the smell. An inexperienced officer gave the full packets to the inmates. One inmate swallowed the detergent, resulting in extreme pain and bleeding from the mouth for hours. The officer report ed the incident to the captain, who did not want to be bother ed with the incident unless the inmate is dead. Despite the warning, the officer reported again to the captain twice, requesting medical assistance for the inmate. The inmate died the next morning.

After an internal and criminal investigation, the captain was demote d and arrest ed by the FBI and prosecuted for violating the civil rights of Mr. Echevarria, who was sentence d to 5 years in prison. The officer was fire d and filed a wrongful-termination suit disputing the captain’s claim that he was never told about the inmate’s health crises.

Questions;

Firstly, Evaluate the incident and create a memorandum for the officers at the jail reminding them of their ethical duties.

Secondly, Identify the theories of ethics the officer and the captain violated.

Thirdly, Develop an action plan to promote ethical behavior by officers and evaluate current research on programs improving ethics among law enforcement officers.

Further, Indicate the resistance you expect to the new plan, and then explain how you would overcome it.

Also, Determine if it is ethical to house inmates with mentally illness in jail.

Sterling, Inc. is a manufacturer of state-of-the-art computers. For the past ten years, Sterling has acquired all of its microchips from NoBugs Corporation, the only producer of chips meeting Sterling’s high specifications. The relationship has been mutually profitable. Sterling could not have built its reputation as an industry leader without NoBugs’s reliable and consistently high-quality products; Sterling’s business has enabled NoBugs to grow rapidly while providing its investors with an attractive rate of return.

Some months ago, several of Sterling’s computers exploded shortly after installation. Upon investigation, Sterling discovered that tiny imperfections in NoBugs’s microchips had aggravated a dormant design defect in the computers, causing the explosions. Analysis of the chips indicated that they were indeed below specifications and that the imperfections were caused by a slight miscalibration of NoBugs’s encoding equipment. Further, NoBugs recalibrated the equipment and promptly resumed production of perfect chips.

Sterling’s losses from the explosions—lost profits, out-of-pocket costs associated with compensating customers for the explosions. Furthermore, injury to business reputation—are estimated to exceed $20 million. Sterling and NoBugs disagree on the amount of the loss for which NoBugs should be responsible. Finally, Sterling has a strong legal case for breach of contract against NoBugs. Sterling’s CEO is considering a lawsuit. She asks you to prepare a report discussing litigation strategy. Then, the advantages and disadvantages of litigation, and discussing pretrial planning should the company opt for litigation.

More details;

Litigation is the process that the lawsuit goes through after it has been formally filed. Litigation can be very expensive, since it involves legal council, gathering evidence, depositions, fiings with the court, etc.

Solving customer and employees problems

Solving customer and employees problems

This is an assignment that focuses on development of ideas to solve customer and employees problems. Additionally, the assignment focuses on cultivation of customers and their employees

Development of ideas to solve customer and employees problems

Skill #6: Develop new ideas that solve customer problems.

Skill #7: Cultivate your customers and their employees on every level of the organization.
Dwight knows that building relationships with customers is important but EW is global now and that personal connection seems to be shrinking. One customer in particular is on his mind. The Sunny Dale Heath Center. One of EW’s first clients, Sunny Dale Health Center came to Dwight and Ike to try to create a wheel chair that would fit the small hall ways of the old Victorian Home they used for their center. It was a great project and the two owners really enjoyed getting to know them all even the orderlies that pushed the patients. In fact, they were really helpful because they explained some of the major problems, they had with manual wheel chairs. Ideas that led to the unique design of EW’s manual chairs.

To this day Dwight and Ike stop by the center once a month on their way to work to see how everything is going. Moreover, it is part of the mission of the company to put their customer’s needs first. How can they do that if they do not see them? So, the problem is how can we create this same approach with our global and national clients who do not live next door?  Dwight also knows that this issue goes hand in glove with customer service. In fact, he recently read in an article from Bytegain, a major e-commerce consulting firm, that e- commerce is one of the biggest believers in the idea that customer service is paramount to developing and keeping customers.

These two facts amazed him:

Over 50% of American consumers say they’ve scrapped a planned purchase or transaction due to bad service. Additionally, 80% of businesses believe that they’re providing “superior” customer service, only 8% of consumers feel the same. There’s obviously a disconnect here. Dwight has realized that Inge is going to need a new manager for customer service. He has decided that he would like to see how you would tackle creating a plan to cultivate EW’s long-distance customers so that EW can better evaluate their problems.  Dwight also would like to see techniques for identifying and solving their problems as well.

Requirements

Using the articles in this week’s course material and research create a report complete with an executive summary that addresses the following:

  • Create a page long executive summary that reports major findings to Dwight that you have discovered.
  • What does EW want from its customer relationships?
  • How can EW make the most of its US long distance customers?

Also,

  • How will it differ from cultivating international customers? (Hint: be sure to address language and culture)
  • Look specifically at Japan and South Korea what kinds of considerations do you think influence EW’s relationship with these customers? You may want to look back at the earlier assignments to help in answering this part.
  • Select 5 techniques that are the best ways to build long-distance customer relationships and justify your reasons for selecting them.
  • Identifies the steps you would take to help long-distance customers to solve their problems. You must use course material to support your responses and APA in-text citations with a reference list.

Project Budgeting and Project Management Scheduling

Project Budgeting and Project Management Scheduling

This is an assignment that focuses on Project Budgeting and Project Management Scheduling. This paper will use MS project as a deliverable for the estimation.

Project Budgeting and Project Management Scheduling

Introduction Estimating project budgets is far from an exact science. Firstly, many of us have heard of projects running over budget. Why is this? Why do we consistently forecast low? Then, there are many reasons for this inconsistency. This include improper funding at the beginning of the project to taking shortcuts that should never have been taken. The project management schedule helps you and your project team evaluate progress and assess whether or not the project will be completed by the deadline. It is also a way to identify bottlenecks in the process so you can creatively reallocate resources and adjust timelines to ensure the project remains on time and within budget.

Option A: Based on the analysis completed by a task force at Cosmo, Inc., the marketing department must develop, implement, and test a new marketing campaign focused on maintaining current customer levels and increasing their customer base through the utilization of new technology. Refer to the Cosmo, Inc. Business Case document in the Resources for more information. Your Role As the project manager, you are responsible for forecasting and completing the cost budget. Additionally, to also manage the project’s schedule.

• Develop a project cost (budget) section. Then, prepare a cost estimate for the project by identifying the costs of each task and create categories to prioritize project expenditures. Prepare a preliminary budget using the cost estimate for your selected project. o Note: Copy and paste the Summary Table and Comments into the Project Management Cost (Budget) section of the template.

Project Budgeting and Project Management Scheduling

• Subsequently, develop project management schedule sectio‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍n. This should also identify the time frames within which the costs will be incurred. o Note:

Link your MS Project timeline that meets project duration requirements.. Identify project stakeholders and roles and responsibilities for these sections of the project management plan template. Additionally, using your Work Breakdown Schedule and MS Project, identify the activities that must be performed to produce the project deliverables. Also include the following as part of the Project Management Schedule section of the template:

• Summarize the intent of using a project schedule for the selected project. • Develop a MS Project plan for your project schedule. Include an introduction and link into this section of your plan. Create a Gantt chart showing: o Resources assigned to each task. However, Limit project tasks to 10 business days or less. Shorter task durations make it easier to assess project progress. Provide additional amplifying information about the schedule in your Project Plan.

• Lastly, utilize your Project Management Plan Template. • References: There is no set number of references required for this assessment.

GROW model case principle of smart goals

GROW model case principle of smart goals

This is an assignment that focuses on the first and second stage of the GROW model. The paper also provides feedback and assumptions.

The first and second stage of the GROW model

THE GROW MODEL
Goals: First stage of the GROW model
In this first stage, the object is to identify the behavior you want to change, and then state this behavior as a goal.  Use the principles of SMART goals at this stage (see Module 1 under coaching skills and this module’s SLP).
Reality: Second stage of the GROW model
The object of this stage is to establish the present reality of the coachee and the situation.  Ask questions that invite self-assessment and provide honest non-judgmental feedback.

1.  Self-assessment: Firstly, the purpose is to determine what the problem is, what is behind it, what the coachee can resolve, if this is an accurate picture of reality.
o   Asking “What do you think is going on?” frames the problem in the coachee’s terms – not your interpretation of the problem.
o   Asking “How often does this happen?” “Under what circumstances does this happen?” or simply “When does this happen?” will encourage detailed description.
o   Asking “What other problems are there?” may reveal broader patterns.
o   Also, avoid “How” and “Why” questions (you only want the facts).
o   Keep the conversation on track. (Do not allow the coachee to go off on tangents about things that cannot be changed.)
o   Pay attention  and use active listening skills.  (see Module 1)

The first and second stage of the GROW model

2.    Offer specific feedback: Secondly, be positive and emphasize what can be done to improve the situation.  Support your feedback with specific examples.
o   Reinforce desired behaviors.
o   Be objective and also describe unwanted behavior. However, do not evaluate it or use critical or negative language.
o   Base your feedback on what you personally observe – not hearsay. For example, a 360-degree review might say, “Susan is not a very good supervisor.” That is an impression. The coach wants to identify behaviors that contribute to poor supervision.  For example:  “Susan doesn’t hold regular staff meetings with her direct reports to keep them apprised of departmental plans and procedures.”  Under this scenario, the coach can focus on changing actual behaviors that will result in improved supervisory performance.

3.    Avoid assumptions: Thirdly, make sure you are being impartial and accurately assessing the coachee’s skills, experience, and motivation.  So, do not let any personal biases regarding the coachee’s age, gender, ethnicity, personality, or style influence your assessment.
o   By the same token, help identify assumptions the coachee makes about you or others. Additionally, help the coachee see that assumptions can impede his ability to work effectively with others.
o   The surest way to reduce the effects of assumptions is to ask questions that challenge them. However, if you find yourself assuming your coachee is inexperienced, ask about job history and prior assignments. If you are inclined to assume the coachee does not like a certain aspect of the job, ask.
