Child Abuse and Neglect State Reporting Policies

This assignment requires you to demonstrate your knowledge of the child abuse reporting and investigation laws in your state by preparing a critical analysis of 3 different case studies.  Your responses must go beyond simply identifying, listing and/or defining concepts, terms, or ideas. Provide answers that are thoughtful and directly relevant to the questions posed below. Support your analysis with specific examples from the case studies and scholarly source material.
Tip: You can find information on your state’s child welfare policies through interviewing a social worker from your local child welfare office, examining your state child welfare webpage, looking up your state’s child welfare code (ie, laws), and/or researching your state’s resources at https://www.childwelfare.gov/.
Please thoughtfully respond to each of the following 4 questions. Remember to cite sources!

Firstly, describe your state’s definitions of abuse and neglect and the mandatory reporting policies.  Identify the legal codes where the mandates appear.  The paper should include the types of abuse that fall within the mandated reporting laws, the legal definitions of abuse and neglect, when reports should be made, where they should be made and the consequences of not reporting abuse.

Secondly, describe your state’s child welfare investigation laws, including required time frames from taking the report to investigation and safety assessments.   Outline the child welfare response for each case study based on your state’s investigative processes.

Thirdl, using each case study below, identify if you (as a mandated reporter in your state) would be required to make a report.  Based on your state’s reporting laws and process, explain why you would or would not report.  Next, describe what the likely course of investigation would be for the case.

Lastly, critique the process for responding to suspected child abuse and neglect in your state from reporting through investigation. Are there aspects of the process with which you disagree?  Why or why not?  Utilize scholarly literature and clinical material from the case studies to illustrate and substantiate your points.
