Using of cellphone while driving activity from a cognitive perspective

Attention, Performance, and Cell Phones

Research the topic of cell phone use while driving. Framing the discussion in terms of the effects of these two competing activities from a cognitive perspective.

From the “Implications” box on page 72 of Anderson’s Cognitive Psychology. (Please use this reference as one of the three) and its Implications. It is apparent that there is a great deal of evidence that suggests that making telephone calls can reduce the ability of a driver to perform this task well. See attached image.

You may use this item on page 72 as a beginning point to delve deeper into the topic in a paper of your own. You should develop a discussion of the task demands and the problems involved with focusing and shifting attention, both when attempting to multitask as well as when engaging in only a single task. Also, you should discuss the differences of talking with a passenger versus talking on the phone. Also, the differences that may (or may not) exist between hands-free phone calls and calls where one must hold the phone. You should also discuss the very current topic of text messaging while driving. Discussing how this differs from telephone calls in the depth and number of additional task demands.

While the book can be used as a primary source, there should be a minimum of two other sources.

The paper should use APA standards for formatting (double spacing, running header in all caps, page numbering in the header, and 12-point Times New Roman font). The paper should include a cover page, references, appropriate citations, and the student’s own words with quoted material used rarely if at all. Lastly, the paper should be no less than 3 pages long (not counting the cover or references pages).

Akers’ Social Learning Theory Bandura Social Learning Theory

This is a paper that is focusing on the student to Assess the extent to which Akers’ social learning theory . The paper also provides additional information to use in the writing of the assignment paper. Below is the description details:

Assess the extent to which Akers’ social learning theory

1.Describe the major criticisms of Sutherland’s differential association theory and assess the extent to which Akers’ social learning theory overcame these criticisms

2. Criminology textbooks tend to get thicker and heavier with each subsequent edition. Can this situation be rectified with theoretical integration?

3. The U.S. criminal justice system has a wide reach, and its impact is not felt equally by race or class. 1 in 33 adults are under some form of criminal justice supervision. 1 in 10 black males age 30 to 34 are in prison or jail compared to 1 in 61 white males age 30 to 34 (Source: BJS report “Correctional Population in the United States, 2010.” NCJ-236319). Also, 1 in 12 blacks  do not vote in the upcoming presidential election. In some states more than 20% of the black population is barred from voting due to felony disenfranchisement (Source: Jeff Manza and Christopher Uggen’s Locked Out).

Assess the extent to which Akers’ social learning theory

Interpret these facts from the perspective of one or more critical criminology or race theories (theories from Part VII or Part XV of the textbook).

4. How does life-course theory help us understand the fact that nearly all serious adult offenders were serious juvenile offenders yet most serious juvenile offenders do not become serious adult offenders?

5. Is Hirschi’s (1969) social control theory compatible with Gottfredson and Hirschi’s (1990) general theory of crime? Why or why not?

6. How might criminal justice sanctions such as arrest and imprisonment increase individual criminal involvement? Identify at least two theories that would suggest this and assess their adequacy.

7. Several criminological theories attempt to explain variation in crime at the neighborhood level. Pick one such theory and explain the differences between structural and cultural factors in the explanation of crime at the neighborhood level using this theory.

8. Lastly, criminological theories have public policy implications. Contrast two theories: one which has unworkable or unrealistic policy implications and one which has reasonable policy implications

Discuss the Schizophrenia Over Time assignment

INSTRUCTIONS

Assignment: Schizophrenia Over Time: Experiences Living With the Illness

Experiences of schizophrenia are not homogeneous; there is wide variety in onset, course of illness, and combinations of symptoms. Social workers need to be able to understand the different manifestations and pathways of the illness to plan interventions. Social work services play a key role in stabilizing crises, supporting family coping, and influencing overall quality of life and outcomes of individuals with schizophrenia. In this Assignment, you practice applying this necessary individualization.

To prepare: In the Learning Resources, focus on the associated features, development, and course of the illnesses in the schizophrenia spectrum. Also focus on descriptions of the disorder and the way it develops for different individuals.

Choose two articles from the list in the Learning Resources that apply to treatment support and interventions for the schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders chapter in the DSM 5. Choose either Saks or McGough to focus on for this assignment.

Submit a 3- to 4-page paper, supported by at least 4 scholarly resources (not including DSM-5), in which you address the following:

Describe Saks’s or McGough’s experiences with schizophrenia. Identify onset, associated features (specifically referencing the positive and negative symptoms), development, and course.
Explain how you would use the Clinician Rated Dimensions of Psychosis Symptom Severity measure and the WHODAS to help confirm your diagnosis.
Explain how you would plan treatment and individualize it for Saks or McGough. Support your response with references to scholarly resources. In your explanation, consider the following questions:
What are the long-term challenges for someone living with the illness?
What social, family, vocational, and medical supports are needed for long-term stabilization?
Briefly explain how race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, or other identities characteristics may influence an individual’s experience with schizophrenia.

Physical, social, emotional and cognitive development

Adolescent developmental domains are intertwined and strongly influenced by experiences and environments.

The developmental changes that typically occur in adolescence have been documented extensively in literature that is widely accessible. Importantly, each area of development is intertwined with the other–physical, social, emotional and cognitive development–along with sociocultural and environmental influences and also experiences. A summary of some of the key developmental aspects of adolescence and the nature of these changes follows.

Physical development

In early adolescence, the body undergoes more developmental change than at any other time, apart from birth to two years old. The rate of growth is rapid and uneven, with a different pace and rate of change for each individual. Physical changes include increases in height, weight, and internal organ size as well as changes in skeletal and muscular systems.

Puberty occurs in early adolescence, triggered by the release of hormones which lead to the development of primary sex characteristics (genitalia) and also secondary sex characteristics (eg breast development in girls; facial hair in boys). The increased hormone production affects skeletal growth, hair production, and skin changes.
