Literature Review (about 2 or 2 and ½ pages)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with Adolescents
– Use 5 studies to conduct the review of literature portion. The focus is on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with adolescents (or adolescents in foster care if you find that more suitable)
o The studies need to be dated within 2010 to 2019 and to be from a peer-reviewed journal.
o Listed below are 2 studies, find the other 3 to use.
Koob, J. J. & Love, S. M. (2010).
The implementation of solution-focused therapy to increase foster care placement stability. Children and Youth Services Review, 32, 1346-1350.
Cepukiene, V. & Pakrosnis, R. (2011).
The outcome of solution-focused brief therapy among foster care adolescents:
The changes of behavior and perceived somatic and cognitive difficulties. Children and Youth Services Review, 33, 791-797.
– For each study include:
o the number of participants, demographics (race/ethnicity, gender, age), and methodology
o Summarize the study
o Does the conclusion follow the results? Analysis (about 1 and ½ pages)
– Give an analysis of the literature above.
– Which populations have benefited from SFBT? Which populations has not?
o Think about ethnicities, genders, geographical locations, ages, settings, problems, economic status, etc.
– What are the gaps? Or What is still missing in the literature?
– What does the literature say about the effectiveness of the modality? Notes:
– Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) appear to be used with other forms of therapy like CBT (Koob & Love, 2000).
– Is most beneficial to address problems that are not deep rooted like mental illnesses, problems that cause personality changes, etc.
Koob and Love (2000) applied SFBT before the adolescent was faced with any poor developmental outcomes.
Conclusion (about ½ a page to 1 page)
– Using the key findings from the literature, conclude how you might reformulate the intervention. In other words, how would you “tweak” the intervention. (nothing major) References Wallace, J. G. & Eisengart, S. (2000).
