World Class Manufacturing

This SLP will focus on manufacturing. Select a large manufacturing company based outside of the United States and an American organization that both produce the same product type and analyze if they can be considered world class manufacturers.

Introduction (2-3 sentences)

Firstly, provide background information on the two manufacturing companies that will be analyzed (name of company, parent country and industry). Explain that you will be analyzing the two for world class manufacturing techniques used. NOTE: Introductions and conclusions may be written after the body of the paper is completed.

World Class Manufacturing (1½ pages)

Secondly, research the tenets and principles of world class manufacturing. Provide a well-balanced overview of the philosophy and also practice. Include a discussion of how productivity is measured. (research required)

You must use at least one article from the Trident Library databases for this section. You are not to use consultant sites for this part of the assignment. There are many of these sites that will come up when you search “world class manufacturing.”

International Company (1/2 page)

Thirdly, using a combination of the company’s website and resources from third-party professional, government or academic publications, investigate at least two areas in which the entity can be assessed for world class manufacturing. NOTE: your conclusion may be that the company does not meet the standards.

U.S. Company (1/2 page)

Fourthly, using a combination of the company’s website and resources from third-party professional, government or academic publications, investigate at least two areas in which the entity can be assessed for world class manufacturing. NOTE: your conclusion may be that the company does not meet the standards.
