For this assignment, select at least two theories that you think feed most into emergency management policy and practice. These are just a few of the primary theoretical paradigms commonly used when studying emergency management issues:

Symbolic interactionism.
Functionalism.
Conflict theory.
Structuralism.
Vulnerability.
Social constructionist theories (as related to hazards and disasters).
Systems theory (including systems thinking).
Organizational behavior theories.
Emergent behavior theories.
Development theories (as related to economy, globalization, and complex societies).
Risk perception and communication theories (as related to hazards, disasters, and response).

Identify the theories you have chosen and give a brief overview of each.
Describe how each theory influences the following:

Understanding problems within organizations that affect the policy and administration of emergencies and disasters.
Understanding external pressures on organizational and functional effectiveness.

Address legal, ethical, and diversity issues in emergency management policy and also administration.

APA guidelines: Resources and citations must be formatted according to current APA style and formatting. When appropriate, use APA-formatted headings.
Resources: A minimum of 3 scholarly resources in addition to the course text, Disaster Policy and Politics, should you choose to use the text.
Length of paper: 5–7 typed, double-spaced pages, not including the title page and references.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 points.

The following criteria need meet for Scoring:
1.      Firstly, analyze how selected theories influence understanding of problems within emergency management organizations that affect the policy and administration of emergencies and disasters, including how they indicate workable solutions to the problems.
2.      Secondly, analyzes how selected theories influence understanding of external pressures on emergency management organizational and functional effectiveness, including how they use metrics to evaluate effectiveness.

3.      Thirdly, analyzes how selected theories address legal, ethical, and diversity issues in emergency management policy and administration, including how these issues influence decision making.
4.      Fourthly, integrates recent and relevant peer-reviewed research and literature to support all aspects of analysis.
5.      Also, writes clearly and logically, with no noticeable errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics. Uses relevant evidence to support a central idea. Uses the terminology of emergency management effectively.
6.      Lastly, correctly formats paper, citations, and references using current APA style. Citations are free from errors.
