Mr. Smith is a 40-year-old African American male who smokes 1 pack of cigarettes a day. His diet consists mainly of fried food with very few fruits and vegetables which he eats with his meal in the evening. Mr. Smith works at an automobile factory from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm five days a week where he is in the tire division which requires placing tires on the car. On weekends, Mr. Smith enjoys watching his favorite football team play and gathering with friends. His home is on a small lot which does not require much maintenance. He has a wife and two children, ages eight and ten. Review the five different behavior theories of change as found in the reading assignment (see link below). Discuss one theory you could apply to Mr. Smith. In your own words, describe the meaning of theory. How would this behavior theory relate to a change in Mr. Smith’s behavior?
