Law Enforcement’s Role in Prevention and Response

This week you will critically evaluate the role law enforcement plays in prevention and response to the type of abuse you chose in Module 02. First, conduct scholarly research to examine the role law enforcement has in preventing the type of abuse. Provide a thorough summary, supported with research, of at least two prevention efforts used by law enforcement. Discuss each prevention effort separately and support each effort with scholarly research. Next, provide a thorough summary of law enforcement’s response to the type of abuse. What role does law enforcement play in responding to this type of abuse? This summary can be a statute that dictates how law enforcement must respond to the type of abuse OR a policy that has been implemented by a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board or other agency to guide law enforcement’s response. Finally, conduct research to examine the challenges of these prevention efforts and responses. Choose ONE of the prevention efforts discussed above and research a challenge of the effort. Then, research a challenge to the statute or policy response. Provide a discussion of each challenge that is supported with research. The assignment should meet APA formatting guidelines and incorporate at least two scholarly sources (from the library databases). Use headers to identify each section. This is consistent with APA format. The headers should be “First Prevention Effort of Law Enforcement”, “Second Prevention Effort of Law Enforcement”, “Statute (or policy) Response”, “Challenge of Prevention Effort”, “Challenge of Response Effort”.
