A career in the US Army A Reflection Essay

I joined the United States Army on 21 February 2012 and attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon graduating, I attended advanced individual training the same year at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where I obtained the (MOS) 74D, Chemical, Nuclear, Biological, and Radiological Specialist.

I joined the United States Army on 21 February 2012 and attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon graduating, I attended advanced individual training the same year at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where I obtained the (MOS) 74D, Chemical, Nuclear, Biological, and Radiological Specialist. My duty assignments have included: CBRN NCOIC for Charlie Company, 304th Signal Battalion in Camp Humphreys, South Korea. CBRN Team Leader at 21st Chemical Company Fort Bragg NC and CBRN Squad Leader at 71st Chemical Company Schofield Barracks Hawaii.

Firstly, Use your imagination about my positions and problems. A mini-paper differs from a Term Paper.

Secondly, You will apply what you learned in this class to my 4 questions concerning an employment position you were in.

Thirdly, If by chance you don’t have much of an employment history, you can use a family member or friend’s employment experience for the 4 questions. When you type your paper to email to me, please number your answers 1 through 4.

Questions

1) Please name the position you or the other person was in, and the name of the company or agency. W hat the company/agency do as their mission.

2) Looking at Chap 13 on Group Behaviour in regard to Communication Styles and Chap 12 in regard to Leadership Styles, answer the following:
a) Was the management and supervisors practicing a top to bottom style of Management/Leadership. Did they have more of a Participative Leadership and circle, centralized, or Open communication style? Please then give examples of how the supervisors or management practiced the types you chose.
b) In regard to the management or supervisors leadership style, was it more person-oriented aka Supportive Style, or was it more Task-Oriented aka Instrumental Style. Again, please then give examples of how the supervisors or management practiced the types you chose.

3) Did you notice any problems within the Culture of your company/agency, such as unprofessionalism among staff or employee low morale?

Also, Did you find any leadership or employees harassing or discriminating against others on the opposite end.

Further, Did you find leadership or staff doing very positive things for the organization.  Possibly you experienced something in your employment that didn’t sit well with you, and I haven’t mentioned this. Therefore, please discuss this in your response to Question 3.

4) If you were an Industrial Organizational Psychologist brought into your company/agency to solve the problem (s) you listed and explained, as an IOP, how you would rectify each of the problems you mentioned as an IOP consultant to the CEO of the company/agency.
