Term Project:  Paper and Presentation, Designers of Today

Students will select a living (current) designer to research and analyze. This 4-6-page typewritten paper (not less than 4 pages), double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman should be written in students’ own words, on the designer selected. The research should cover the following areas:

A. Firstly, background of the designer, education, age, and how he/she got into the business.

B. Secondly, the market segment(s) that designer targets.  Discuss the demographics of the designer’s customer (age, income, occupation, lifestyle, social class, cultural background, etc.).

C. Thirdly, the look(s) for which the designer is known. (Include pictures and/or sketches.)  Describe any special fabrics, trim, or style elements the designer uses in the garments that are sold to the consumer.

D. Fourthly, discussion of how the designer promotes the merchandise that he/she manufactures and where/how it is sold.

E. Explanation of why the designer is considered an important designer in the fashion industry.  (Here, students should include a personal viewpoint and evaluation of the designer’s work.)

F. Presence on social media. Discuss and validate how the designer is promote on various social media sites.

G. Influence on pop culture. Discuss and validate where/how designer’s work view on famous celebrities, in film, on the street.

At least one example of the designer’s styles worn by a famous fashion innovator

Please note that examples of the designers’ work and photographs of the designer are in addition to the 4-6 page paper. (written work should not be less than 4 pages).  APA format for documentation should be carefully follow with in-text citations and a References page at the end of the project.

In addition to the written paper, each student will need to create a PowerPoint presentation on his or her chosen designer.
