RISK MANAGEMENT in medical group practice
Ms. Hamlet has been a patient with Dr. X for 5 years. Dr. X has provided Ms. Hamlet with excellent care and suggestions of how to improve her health. Ms. Hamlet has continued refused to adopt the recommendations that Dr. X has provided for her on a 6 month evaluations. Because of the lack of concern that Ms. Hamlet has shown for her own health, Dr. X has decided to terminate Ms. Hamlet as a patient from the practice. Dr. X is very concerned that Ms. Hamlet cardiac status is failing. She has refused to take her medication, exercise, eat a well balanced diet. Dr. X has provided the following strategies in order to terminate this patient. 1. He has provided the patient with a written notice 2. Requested a return receipt 3. Provided the patient with a brief explanation for the termination. 4. In the brief explanation has provided the valid reason 5. Agreed to continue to provide treatment and access for a reasonable time frame of 30 days. This will allow Ms. Hamlet to secure another physician 6. Provided resources to help the patient find another physician 7. Offered to provide the patient acknowledgement that he will have his office send over all the medical records when the new physician is located Please Use This Strategy When You Analyze A Case: Identify the most important facts surrounding the case. Identify the key issue or issues. Specify alternative courses of action. Evaluate each course of action. Recommend the best course of action.
