Monitoring of airborne contaminants
Description Your case study company has a requirement to carry out both workplace (occupational health) and ambient (environmental protection – e.g. fugitive emissions) monitoring of airborne contaminants.
To help with this process, you have been asked to write a 2000-word briefing note to the company’s Board that critically evaluates different approaches to the monitoring of
(a) particulates and
(b) organic compounds in these different environments.
In your report, you should explain the principles of both the sample collection methods (as appropriate) and the analysis techniques (in some cases these may be combined in one instrument).
In addition, you should evaluate the alternative monitoring approaches in terms of
(i) appropriateness to the likely concentration ranges in each environment,
(ii) accuracy and precision,
(iii) practicality, and
(iv) cost.
