TOPIC 1: “Historical Representation.” How do historical perspectives of the Civil War and Reconstruction continue to influence history? Why/how does this happen? You could (but don’t have to!) consider any of the following: Analyze, evaluate, and explain how or why a particular historical perspective we reviewed this week has a positive and/or negative impact. Think about historical bias or prejudice and how it is reflected or not in historical perspectives we study this week. Analyze how traditional “historical representations” of people and events can continue to shape historical interpretations even after a historical understanding of the past person or event changes.
