Generational experiences with culture

For this assignment, you will be writing about your own generational experiences with culture. Think about your own generation and the mark it has made (and is making) on society.

Construct an essay which takes into account your own generation’s cultural standards and norms. Use the following prompts and questions as a guide:

Identify the generation to which you belong and explain what the attributes of your generation are. Consider some of the specific issues or concerns of your generation. Answers to this prompt could be in the form of “I think…” or “I feel….” This prompt also requires you to know about the generations that have come before you and about their cultural ideals and goals.

How do prior generations differ in their thinking, action and goals than your generation? Are any of your generation’s ideas countercultural? Countercultural ideas are REVOLUTIONARY, NEW, and have a significant impact which changes the way our society functions at the macro level. Countercultural ideas DISRUPT the existing structures of society and often create completely NEW WAYS OF LIVING and INTERACTING with others. Countercultural ideas are RARE—be careful with your response to this question, and be sure you read up on what constitutes a counterculture.

What subcultures have emerged from your generation OF WHICH YOU ARE A MEMBER? Everyone is a member of some sort of subculture How have the issues of your generation been expressed through culture? What are the artistic, social, and political identities of your generation? How does your generation use words and symbols differently than others? How has your generation made its mark on society? What are the positive aspects of your generation with regard to your cultural legacy? What are the negative aspects of your generation with regard to your cultural legacy? Look to the future of your generation’s culture. What does that look like? This assignment requires the use of references.
