Material focuses on common disorders, treatments, the role of sociocultural factors in disease, and strategies to educate patients. Activities require the correct application of key terms, principles, and concepts. Later, after completing this unit, you should be able to: Assess patients with infections in acute care. Analyze treatment and management plans for patients with infections in acute care.
Secondly, analyze strategies for educating patients on the treatment and management of infections in acute care. Describe a patient encounter you had with a patient with an infectious disease. (Do not use the patient’s real name.) Additionally, summarize the pathophysiology behind the disorder. Discuss the patient’s level of knowledge about his/her disorder and education gaps that needed to be addressed for either the patient or family. Present the current management recommendations for the disorder. Additionally, reflect on your comfort level managing this disorder. Where do you need to further develop your acute care acumen to safely and appropriately care for patients with this disorder?
