This is an assignment that focuses on Christology depictions of Jesus in the Gospels. The gospels in this discussions are Mark and Matthew.

Christology depictions of Jesus in the Gospels

Christology is the part of theology that is concerned with the nature and work of Jesus.

Assignment: Write a 3-4 page paper that answers the following:

1)     What are the various aspects of the Christological depictions of Jesus in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew? (Use several specific examples from various stories in each Gospel to illustrate the main aspects of each Gospel).
2)     In your description of Matthew’ Christology, illustrate with specific examples how Matthew (1) redacts Mark’s material and (2) incorporates additional sources (Q and Special Matthew) in order to construct his Christological depiction of Jesus.
3)     In your opinion, can the depictions of Jesus in Matthew and Mark be combined into a coherent whole? Why or why not?

3)     Does it address the various, main aspects of the Christology of Mark and Matthew using examples from various stories to illustrate your analysis of each Gospel?

4)     Quotations: Does your paper contain large block quotes from scripture? If so, then rephrase them in your own words. Similarly, does it contain lots of smaller quotes? If so, then rephrase most of them, keeping only a select few that are especially important.

5)     Does my paper provide references to the biblical passages discussed? For example: If you are discussing the story of the Transfiguration in Mark, you need to tell me somewhere that you are dealing with Mark 9:2-9. If you are quoting from scripture, please give the exact verse(s).

6)     Lastly, include sources: are not required for this paper. But if you do use sources, they must be properly cited … even if you use your textbook. Remember that ideas and information – as well as quotes and paraphrases – must be acknowledged by a citation.
(The only exception are Biblical quotes and references (see point 5). Here you don’t have to cite the source (your bible), just the passage.)
