Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient

Correlation is a technique for investigating the relationship between two quantitative, continuous variables, for example, age and blood pressure. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) is a measure of the strength of the association between the two variables.

The first step in studying the relationship between two continuous variables is to draw a scatter plot of the variables to check for linearity. The correlation coefficient should not be calculated if the relationship is not linear. For correlation only purposes, it does not really matter on which axis the variables are plotted. However, conventionally, the independent (or explanatory) variable is plotted on the x-axis (horizontally) and the dependent (or response) variable is plotted on the y-axis (vertically).

Additionally, the nearer the scatter of points is to a straight line, the higher the strength of association between the variables. Also, it does not matter what measurement units are used.

Values of Pearson’s correlation coefficient

Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) for continuous (interval level) data ranges from -1 to +1:

Positive correlation indicates that both variables increase or decrease together. Whereas negative correlation indicates that as one variable increases, so the other decreases, and vice versa.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God Summary

Jonathan Edwards delivered his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” as a warning about what awaits those who succumb to sin and temptation.

In part one, Edwards quotes and analyzes Deuteronomy 32:35: “Their foot shall slide in due time.” He uses this image as a metaphor for people risking their lives by walking on the slippery slope of sin.

Additionally, in part two, Edwards argues that men live and die at the mercy of God and that God is the ultimate judge of each soul.

Finally, in part three, Edwards warns of the hellish consequences awaiting those who do not behave righteously.

The US Administration made a decision to move their Embassy to Jerusalem

Recently, the US Administration made a decision to move their Embassy to Jerusalem. What are your views regarding this decision in terms of geopolitics of the region?

More details;

Why is the U.S. moving its embassy to Jerusalem?

On Monday, the US officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a new US Embassy opened there.

It’s a controversial move that breaks with decades of official US policy — and it comes at a particularly tumultuous time for Israel and the region.

President Donald Trump announced his decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem back in December, calling it “a long-overdue step to advance the peace process and to work towards a lasting agreement.”

On May 14, which coincided with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s founding, Trump’s daughter Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and a number of members of Congress attended the opening ceremony in the former consulate building in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Arnona. The new embassy will be house there temporarily, as the administration scouts out a permanent location. Christian and Jewish religious leaders were reportedly in attendance as well — the guest list include close to 800 people. Trump himself spoke by video link from Washington.

But as the embassy event got underway on Monday, Israeli soldiers were firing on Palestinian protesters at the Gaza border.

As of Tuesday morning, they had killed at least 60 people and wounded thousands of others. Many of the protesters were unarmed, though some hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails. The Israeli military also says that they shot three protesters who were attempting to detonate a bomb. No Israelis so far have been in an injury.

Palestinians are in their seventh week of protests at the border with Gaza, calling for the right of return to territory that is now part of Israel. They’re also protesting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is suffering from a stifling Israeli and Egyptian blockade.
