What was the cause of the September massacres?
The people believed that political prisoners were planning to rise up in their jails to join a counterrevolutionary plot. The actual killing began on September 2. This is when a group of prisoners being transferred to Abbaye prison (near Saint-Germain-des-Prés on the Left Bank) was attacked by an armed band.
Why did the Soviet Union fall?
Gorbachev’s decision to allow elections with a multi-party system and create a presidency for the Soviet Union began a slow process of democratization that eventually destabilized Communist control and contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The leader development plan core attributes assignment

Leader Development Plan
As we studied in module one, the capability to lead others can be learned and developed. In this assignment you take one small step to learn how to improve your ability to engage productively and be a mindful contributor in a leadership effort.

One useful approach is the design process. In this process, there are two concepts that are critical to implementing the design process. These are  design thinking and design principles.

Design is the process of originating and developing a plan. When we apply the design process to improving our leading capability, we think of it as a design process.  Designing your leadership is about mindful engagement. Mindfulness simply means being aware.

In order to improve your capability, you need to identify your CORE for your leadership capacity.  Additionally, in this course, we will focus on four attributes that define your CORE (Confidence, Resilience, Optimism, and Conscious engagement).

CORE Attributes for Your Leadership Capacity
Confidence-belief in yourself underpins your ability to learn, adapt, and successes.  This attribute includes assertiveness and self-esteem.

Optimism—the ability and tendency to see the positive, both now and in the future.

Resilience—your ability to withheld and recover from difficulties. This includes hardiness and grit.

Engagement—the degree of keeping yourself involved consciously and also effectively. It is critical for being productive all your endeavors. This includes enthusiasm, motivation, skills, mindfulness, and also habits.

For a detailed understanding of the design process, please read from pages 12-40 of your textbook.

The Design Process

Understand: Based  on the results of your Assertiveness Self-assessment and Resiliency Self-assessment,  what is your outstanding weakness (es). Which of the weaknesses merit an immediate action for self-improvement? Why? You may need to summarize the results of the self-assessment tests you took.

Imagine: generate possible ideas that can help you improve the weakness. Problem solvers find a solution; but creative problem solvers do not stop with the first good idea; they keep coming up with more ideas to find that great idea. Therefore, think imaginatively.

Implement: Take action based on your imagined great idea. This may need a lot of time. Change doesn’t happen in one day or one week.

Iterate: Repeat the process of understanding, imagining and implementing. This is necessary because your imagined solution might be ineffective or need further improvement. Iteration is the repetition of a process in order to generate a sequence of outcomes. The sequence will approach some end point or end value. Each repetition of the process is a single iteration, and the outcome of each iteration is then the starting point of the next iteration.

The leader development plan core attributes assignment

Based on the design process, write a 3 page plan. You can use the following headings to organize your plan:

1.      Understating

2.      Imagining

3.      Implementing

4.      Iterating

Criteria to Evaluate your Paper
1.      Firstly, did  the student clearly identify his weaknesses as regards assertiveness and resiliency?
2.      Secondly, did the student explain the scope, causes, and implications of his assertiveness and resiliency weakness?
3.      Thirdly, did the student thoughtfully and creatively  generate solutions to seek improvements in his/her assertiveness and resiliency?
4.      Fourthly, did the student lay out a plan for implementing the ideas for improvement?
5.      Does the plan include all the details (such as time frame, places, involved people, expected outcome) for implementing the ideas for improvement?
6.      Does the plan include how to obtain feedback and how to use the feedback to repeat the understand-imagine-implement process?
7.      Lastly, was the paper carefully edited for clarity, accuracy of grammar, and coherence?

Describes claims made in the policy development process

Based on Chapin’s concept of claimsmaking (Chs. 1, 5, and 6), analyze a recent newspaper or magazine article or news media post (from a reliable news outlet) that describes claims made in the policy development process. The article might focus on claims made while the policy is being considered by a legislative body or claims made by advocates who are trying to change law that has already been adopted. In your paper, describe the policy, the claims made by advocates and/or opponents, and whether the claims meet the third and fourth principles found in Chapin’s Principles of Strengths Perspective Policy (See Quick Guide 3 on page 210 in the 4th edition textbook, or  Week 1 slides for a list of Chapin’s principles). This is a 2 -3 page paper. Include a copy of the article or link to the article in your paper.

Your paper can focus on any policy as long as the policy is governmental in nature.  Do not choose a newspaper article that is focused on organizational policy (i.e., policy created by an agency or business). Example of a newspaper article that includes claimsmaking – http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/us/27adopt.html?pagewanted=print

More details;

What are effector and memory cells?

Following antigenic stimulation, naïve CD8+ T cells can differentiate into ‘effector’ cells that produce inflammatory cytokines and cytotoxic molecules and into ‘memory’ cells, which are capable of an enhanced response to subsequent encounters with their cognate antigen.

Background

Infection or stimulation of the innate immune system by nonspecific microbial antigens is thought to educate the immune system to respond appropriately to allergens, preventing allergy.

Objective

To determine the immunologic pathways that might explain how infection/microbial exposure inhibits allergic sensitization.

Methods

Immunologic studies of non-antigen-specific functions of CD8 memory cells, their maturation in vivo, also their effects in a mouse asthma model, to test the hypothesis that CD8 memory is shape by innate immunity in a way that can inhibit allergic disease.

Results

We found that CD8 memory T-cell (CD8 Tm) populations bridge innate and adaptive immunity by responding to either antigen or cytokines alone. CD8 Tm populations partially subvert the clonal selection process by activating their neighbors through induction of dendritic cell IL-12. Stimulation of innate or acquired immunity in the lung or gut causes expansion/maturation of CD8 Tm populations, which provide an early source of cytokines, enhance TH1 immunity, also inhibit allergic sensitization and airway inflammation/hyperresponsiveness in a non-antigen-specific fashion.

Conclusion

CD8 T-cell–mediated immune memory is long-lived and also can retain its capacity for rapid cytokine release in a nonantigen-specific fashion. This novel type of memory enhances TH1 over TH2 immunity. Also, prevents allergic sensitization after exposure to environmental antigens or infection.

Position on co-sleeping regarding risks versus benefits

Co-Sleeping and SIDS

Child-rearing presents as a set of culturally bound practices that can complement or conflict with research and health promotional practices. The practice of co-sleeping and the risk reduction practices for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) have become conflictual in recent years. In preparation for this discussion, review Mother-Baby Behavioral Sleep Laboratory and SIDS and Other Sleep-Related Infant Deaths: Expansion of Recommendations for a Safe Infant Sleeping Environment for information on each side of this argument. You may locate resources on this topic on your own.

In your initial post for this discussion, formulate a research-supported position on co-sleeping regarding risks versus benefits. Should co-sleeping be discourage?

Secondly, are there specific developmental advantages support by research for co-sleeping?

Thirdly, what are the cultural considerations for co-sleeping practices?

Fourthly, are the risks for co-sleeping (either social, emotional, or health-related) significantly supported by research to take a position against co-sleeping?

Additionally, consider what you would advise as a professional in the promotion of optimal development.
More details;

Co-sleeping is when parents bring their babies into bed with them to sleep. Co-sleeping is associated with an increased risk of sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and also fatal sleeping accidents in some circumstances.
Does co sleeping prevent SIDS?
New statistics say room-sharing can lower the risk of SIDS by as much as 50%. It’s easier to keep an eye on your baby, comfort, and feed him. But he needs his own safe space: A bassinet, crib, or co-sleeper (a separate sleeping area that attaches to your bed). Babies should not sleep in the bed with their parents.
What are SIDS in babies?
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden and unexplain ed death of a baby younger than 1 year old.

1) Try to select (5) of the songs to analyze much in the way we did our lyric analysis. Note the rhyme types, type of composition, quote and point to notable lyrics, and discuss the rhyming patterns.

2) After listening to the mixtape as a whole, analyze the rhetorical messages embedded throughout the entire collection of songs.

Firstly, do these songs articulate a position or perspective about a social issue?

Do they “speak truth to power,” and if so, what are these artists trying to articulate?

Additionally, how do these songs engage with some of our readings?

Also, do these artists adopt a critical stance towards an identity (sexual orientation, gender, race)?

Or do these songs seek to produce an “affective” response, i.e. are they dealing with your emotions?

3) I will be looking for direct citations from some of our readings, our lectures, or other supplementary, outside scholarly sources. Remember this is your midterm, so my grading standards will be more stringent than on a reading discussion or listening response assignment.

Essay (50%): Critical Analysis – Creative Technologies: Links to the Curriculum

Word count: 2000 (plus or minus 10%)

“The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework supports Australian schools to provide every student with the strongest foundation possible for them to reach their aspirations in learning and in life. The Framework is based on evidence that demonstrates the strong association between safety, wellbeing, and learning.” (Education Services Australia, n.d., p.2).  This includes the safe and ethical use of creative technologies in learning environments to enhance curriculum outcomes when students are online.

Firstly, critically analyse the resources in the Australian Student Wellbeing Framework (ASWF) and the Student Wellbeing Hub (SWH) to examine their ability to support the Digital Technologies Learning area and the General Capabilities ICT from the Australian Curriculum, in relation to your chosen year level and school context.

Your paper should provide specific examples of how the ASWF and SWH resources may, or may not, support the use of digital environments in the classroom to assist teachers in meeting curriculum outcomes and also strengthen the digital literacy of students.  Support your discussion with academic literature including peer assessed journals.

This is a paper that is focusing on describe any personal or economic hardship or barriers experiences. The paper also provides additional information to use in writing the assignment paper clearly.

Describe any personal or economic hardship or barriers experiences

Your personal statement provides you the opportunity to discuss aspects of your life that may not be apparent in the rest of your application materials. You’ll have four boxes and space for 6,000 total characters, including spaces. A common misconception is that you must answer all four prompts. You are not to answer all prompts; you may choose to focus on the prompts you have the most to talk about or you could choose to answer all four prompts. The most important thing to understand about the personal statement prompts is that they cannot hurt you in any way, they can only help.

Prompt Tips:

Be specific; when providing examples of when, how long, and what you learned/gained from your experience.
Be concise, direct and truthful.
Avoid broad statements such as “I’ve always wanted to attend the Foster School because I want a business degree.” It is a legitimate comment but does not tell us anything distinctive about you.
When describing your experiences, don’t assume the reader has had your same experiences or shares your perspective.
Be thoughtful about your response.

Give yourself ample time to write and rewrite your responses. Ensure you are properly using the word limit to effectively express what you are trying to convey.
It is not necessary to have two spaces after each period, since extra spacing counts towards your allotted word count. Copying and pasting from a Word document can detract from your total word count. We recommend writing directly into the application itself, however it is wise to save a copy of each essay before hitting submit.

Describe any personal or economic hardship or barriers experiences

Essay 1: Describe any personal or economic hardship/barriers you have experienced and/or are experiencing. Explain how the hardship/barriers directly affected your ability to be successful in your college academics. As hardships/barriers may occur throughout your life. Be specific about when you encountered these hardship/barriers, how long they lasted, and how they impact your academic record.

Essay 2: In the context of your life experience, describe your understanding of cultural differences and how this awareness acquisition. Talk about how your experiences influencing the person you are and what you will bring to the Foster School community (i.e. classroom, extracurricular, future career, etc.). You define what “experience” means to you; if it is important to you, it is important to share.

Essay 3: Describe 1-2 experiences that demonstrate your leadership within a group or organization outside of class. Please do not use examples from high school unless you have completed high school within the past 18 months or your leadership involvement from high school continues today.

Essay 4: How has the educational background of your parents/legal guardians influenced your own education, especially your decision to go to college? What kind of support did you receive in making and pursuing the decision to go to college? Please tell us if you are among the first generation in your family to go to college. (First-generation, defined by the U.S Department of Education as students whose parents/guardians have not completed a bachelor’s (4-year) degree).
