Researchers experimented with organ transplantation on animals and humans in the 18th century. There were many failures over the years, but by the mid-20th century, scientists were performing successful organ transplants. Transplants of kidneys, livers, hearts, pancreata, intestine, lungs, and heart-lungs are now considered routine medical treatment.

Important medical breakthroughs such as tissue typing and immunosuppressant drugs allow for more organ transplants and a longer survival rate for recipients. Additionally, the most notable development in this area was Jean Borel’s discovery of an immunosuppressant drug in the mid-1970s. Cyclosporine was approved for commercial use in November 1983.

Unfortunately, the need for organ transplants continues to exceed the supply of organs. But as medical technology improves and more donors become available, the number of people who live longer and healthier lives continues to increase each year.

The Basic Path of Donation

When your time comes, perhaps decades later, your organs may be use to save many lives. People most frequently become donors after a stroke, heart attack or severe head injury.

The effect of addiction have consumed billions of individuals all over the world, not only consume but also killed. Individuals have relied on drugs to fill the void in their life that is missing. The addict is not only hurting themselves from the drug use but their families, friends, and their community. In this paper, it will give a description of a 21-year-old male named Anthony. Anthony started using marijuana at the age of 20, trying to hide the pain from the death of his sister. Eventually, marijuana was not enough to get Anthony the extra high he wanted which Anthony made the choice to try another drug and eventually it.

No, matter what Anthony’s family does as long as they shelter him from the truth they will continue to be Anthony’s enabler.

Background:

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) are the primary intelligence oversight bodies on Capitol Hill. Congressional oversight is the legislative branch’’s responsibility to monitor and indirectly supervise federal programs, agencies, and policies.

Intelligence oversight is very important to ensure the IC is accountable and adhering to constitutional law. Congress’s role in Intelligence oversight is of heightened importance.  The American people expect a  capable Congress committed to meaningful Intelligence oversight. The 9/11 Commission stated “Of all our recommendations, strengthening congressional oversight may be among the most difficult and important. So long as oversight is governed by current congressional rules and resolutions, we believe the American people will not get the security they want and need. The United States needs a strong, stable, and capable congressional committee structure to give America’s national intelligence agencies oversight, support, and leadership.” (9/11 Report, p. 419)

In 2014, the former 9/11 Commission chairmen issued a follow-on report that highlighted the lack of action on their recommendations concerning congressional oversight. For example, DHS oversight and oversight of the Intelligence budget process are still prevailing issues.

There is much debate and disagreement on the effectiveness of IC Congressional oversight due to a variety of issues that have impacted the Congress’s ability to provide relevant Intelligence oversight:

Firstly, inefficiencies due to a large number of Intelligence committees and sub-committees given the scope of their responsibilities in relation to their size and capabilities.
Secondly, ever-increasing bipartisanship has led to the politicization of intelligence matters.
Thirdly, too much Congressional and IC focus on appropriations but not enough real oversight.
Fourthly, congress’s legislation and oversight powers that have been largely relinquished to an over-powerful and under-responsive Executive Branch.
Lastly, congress does not have the necessary resources to do adequate oversight.

Assignment: As an Intelligence leader, select any three of the five oversight issues outlined above.
