Explore opposing arguments about death penalty policy

The death penalty remains a very controversial element of the criminal justice system. This assignment will provide students the opportunity to explore opposing arguments about death penalty policy and explain how this policy fits within the framework of justice.

You will need to:
Firstly, identify two arguments in support of the death penalty and two arguments in opposition to the death penalty. Can these arguments be supported with verifiable data? Explain. (For example, if someone supports the death penalty because they believe the costs to taxpayers are less than housing someone in prison, do the facts support that claim?)
Secondly, explain how the concept of justice can be achieved in a federal system that permits differences in criminal penalties (including the use of the death penalty) between states.
Thirdly, describe the level of support for the death penalty in Texas, as well as nationally.
Fourthly, identify the top ten nations that conduct the most executions. Does the United States share much in common with the other nations on that list? What are your thoughts about the U.S.’s death penalty policy after discovering the other nations on the list?

You must use primary (at least two) and secondary sources (at least two) to support paper (video lectures are your secondary sources).

What makes William Shakespeare the greatest of all time

This is a paper that requires the student to what makes William Shakespeare the greatest of all time. The paper also provides additional information to use in writing this assignment paper well.

What makes William Shakespeare the greatest of all time

Essay 1 –Psychological Analysis of Macbeth

Great dramatists have always given actors rich language tools which enable them to portray human beings revealing their thoughts and motivations and conducting their relationships. What makes William Shakespeare the greatest of all is that he brought to dramatic art not only revelation of character to the audience, but opened up the characters’ psyches to show self-reflection – their own contemplation of why they do the things they do.

For example – in Hamlet’s famous “To be or not to be” soliloquy, a young man contemplates suicide. He examines the reasons why ending his life would be a rational choice (“… to take arms against a sea of troubles… we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to…”), but then chooses not to, out of fear of what happens after death: a fear “that makes us rather bear those ills we have than fly to others that we know not of.” (3.1.78-82)

What makes William Shakespeare the greatest of all time

We’ve now spent some time reading, hearing, and discussing what Shakespeare tells us, through dramatic language, about the psyches of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. What are the thought processes that lead them to make the choices that propel the plot of the play? (The excerpts we’ve read focus on the desire of both of them that Macbeth be king, the plot to murder Duncan, their feelings about the regicide after they’ve committed it, the “necessity” of murdering Banquo and others, Lady Macbeth’s guilt, and Macbeth’s reaction to her suicide.)

What you’re to do in this essay is to play amateur psychoanalyst. Examine what Macbeth and Lady Macbeth say – to us, and to each other, and to themselves. Argue a thesis that draws some conclusions about what kind of mentality compels them to do the things they do.

I’m looking for 750-1000 words. Make sure you use specific textual references from Shakespeare to support your assertions about the characters’ motivations.  Your references should indicate act, scene and line in this fashion:

“I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition…” (1.7.25-27).

Essay 2: Rhetorical Analysis

Choose one of the assigned articles and read it thoroughly, making sure you have an accurate understanding of the author’s argument. Then, considering the audience and purpose, decide if you feel the author’s argument is effective. You will then write an essay in which you claim that the article is effective or not, and provide a careful analysis of key rhetorical strategies to support your claim.

Tips:

·         Review the Rhetorical Appeals module in the textbook

·         Mark up the article thoroughly and check with me or your classmates to make sure you understand it thoroughly and are identifying specific strategies or flaws in the argument accurately—a misinterpretation of the article will undermine your analysis.

I recommend that you avoid using the words logos¸ pathos, and ethos. Since these are categories of strategies, focusing on these terms—or organizing an essay around them—often results in essays that are too vague in discussing specific strategies or that have paragraphs that overlap with each other (since the boundaries between the three appeals are not always clear-cut).

·         Make sure your entire argument is focused.  Do not write an essay that addresses strengths and weaknesses equally—instead, choose a side to focus on.  It is appropriate, however, to briefly acknowledge why you think the author made certain choices or to acknowledge specific strengths.

·         Do NOT try to analyze every strength or weakness you see in the article.  Your essay should not sound like a list of strategies you noticed.  Instead, select the most important strategies that support your argument and focus on a detailed analysis of those.

Opinions on the issue of gun violence in America review

·         Decide on a specific rationale for the organization of your ideas.  Do not discuss each point in the order in which it appears in the article unless the order is also a key feature of your analysis.

·         Try to include multiple examples from the text to support each of your points.

·         Your commentary should include these things:

o   Identify the specific rhetorical feature that you see in the example

o   Explain why it makes the argument effective

·         If you already had strong opinions on the issue of gun violence in America and would be unlikely to change your mind on them, be intentional about putting aside your personal opinions on the subject as much as possible so that your analysis is not clouded by personal bias on the topic.

·         Remember that this essay is NOT about you agreeing with or disagreeing with the argument. It is your analysis of the rhetorical strategies that make the argument effective/ineffective. Ideally, I should not be able to tell what your opinion on the topic is.

·         Be careful when critiquing an issue in the article. You should indicate that you understand why the author made certain choices. Otherwise, you run the risk of sounding like you’re critiquing something simply because you do not understand it.

o   E.g. Given the fact that Steiner’s general audience is aware of yet mostly uninterested in the issue, it makes sense that he would try to provoke the audience in order to get them engaged. However, he overdoes it when his tone crosses the line and becomes judgmental of readers.

Here are some guidelines to help you answer this question.

Briefly describe the steps for each of the techniques (Mind maps and SQ3R) and analyze them considering the following questions:

– Would the strategies chosen by the teacher depend on the students’ interest, age, capabilities, and/or level?

– Which would be more specific for beginner/low intermediate levels/high intermediate/advanced, Mind maps or SQ3R?

– Which strategies discussed in the articles will also help you with your studies?

Do you think you can benefit from them to improve your reading comprehension and study skills? If so, how?

QUESTION 2: Learning Styles and Strategies (Felder’s theory)

Complete the questionnaire and reflect on its results:
What is your predominant learning style? What areas need to be balanced?

How would you provide your students with a balanced learning experience? Can you think of activities that will do this? Think of an activity that would appeal to adults for each type of learning style, i.e., one activity for active, one for a reflective, one for intuitive, and so on.

The impact of working from home on career outcomes

The impact of working from home on career outcomes

Impact of working from home on career outcomes of professional employees in combination of the overall motivation and performance levels.

More details;

I started working from home some years ago for a company in another country and it was a very enriching experience.

Lets see the bad side:

  • Your social life suffers, when you don’t have to go out of your house you avoid going out of your house… so it will be harder for you to get involved in social activities outside of your family circle
  • You never left the office… At the beginning every person thinks that the main issue working from home is to get distracted by the house activities and left your work behind. I found that the situation is exactly the oposite: you wake up, grab the breakfast and sit on your computer to work, keep working until you grab your lunch and keep working, and then at some point later in the night you decide its time to stop working and go to bed… When you are in an office you have your breakfast, lunch and dinner in other areas different than your desk, mostly by social convention, but at home you feel that you can do whatever you want including eating in your workplace. And being in the office you are more aware of the time because you know you need to go back home, so you will need to get out and stop thinking in work related things for a while.
  • You don’t feel the need to be as tidy as you will be if you have to go to the office. One day you work on your pajamas because why not? and a month later you find yourself taking a shower to jump in your pajamas again without being dress in other clothes in the middle…
  • You are not visible for the other people in your work. So your accomplishments wont be as visible as the ones for the people in the office. This is hard if you are planning to grow in the company because it will make hard to people to recognize and reward your efforts since they are not physically visible.

Write a position paper about supermax prison

Supermax Prisons: Are they necessary?

Supermax prisons are “control-unit” prisons, or units within prisons, which represent the most secure levels of custody in the U.S. prison system.  Over the last several decades, there has been a proliferation of supermax prison facilities.  The justification for these prisons is that they are necessary to deal with high-risk, extremely dangerous or disruptive inmates in a prison population who need to be segregated for extended periods of time; the correctional goals are safety, order, control, and incapacitation of violent or disruptive inmates.

Choosing a publication to write a commentary from the list

This is a paper that is focusing on the choosing a publication to write a commentary from the list. The paper also provides additional information to use in writing the assignment paper.

Choosing a publication to write a commentary from the list

For this assignment, your goal is to share your position and “join the conversation” by preparing your writing for print or online publication.  Readers of commentaries want to grasp the issue you are presenting and understand your angle quickly.  You must make your point quickly and memorably, with an ultimate goal of convincing readers to agree with you and/or change their minds

In this assignment, you will continue writing about your ongoing research topic, but you will modify it to meet the various formatting and style needs of your chosen publication.  This does not mean that you can just take a 2,000-word paper and cut off 1,000 words; instead, you must demonstrate that you make careful choices to revise your more academic writing to fit another medium and for a different audience.

This assignment requires you to:

Choose a publication to which you will write your commentary from the specified list of options below (consult your professor if there is a different publication you have in mind that is not on the list).
Determine the style, tone, level of formality, etc. that is typical for that publication.
Analyze the target audience for the publication, and consider how their needs dictate the writing choices you will make.
Write a Commentary Article between 700 – 1000 words.
APA format – it’s likely that the publication you choose will not use APA format; however, since learning APA is a key component of this class, we will continue to use it here.  If you do decide to submit for publication, be sure to consult publication guidelines and use the reference style specified.

The Romantic Period and with the Artist’s Life in Earlier Periods

The Romantics believed that the artistic imagination was the supreme ideal that all humans must strive towards, an imagination that held the emotions superior to pure reason of the mind. (“Romanticism,” Brooklyn College, 2005) This contrasted distinctly with the traditional arguments for the supremacy of reason during the Classical era. The Romantics favored innovation on the part of the free artist, again outside of society and social ties. The Classical writers stressed their ability to use old forms of poetry. Also, to translate ancient Greek and Roman works such as Homer. Further, their continuity with a rationalist tradition, and to create music in a highly organized and stately style.
