How Does The Knee Work?

In this article we’ll look at the knee in more detail, examine how it works and identify the areas where things can go wrong.

The Joint

The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body, it is a pivotal hinge joint. This type of joint permits bend and extension as well as small amounts of internal and external rotation. Due to its limited range of motion and the heavy load it carries the knee joint can be prone to injuries.

Knee bones

The knee joins the thigh to the shin and is made up of 4 bones; femur, tibia, fibula and patella. The femur is the thigh bone which connects to the tibia, the shin bone. The fibula is a smaller bone which runs alongside the tibia and also forms the lateral part of the ankle joint. Additionally, patella is commonly known as the kneecap and is a triangular piece of bone that sits in a groove at the lower end of the femur.

Tendons explained

Tendons are tough bands of connective tissue connecting the knee bones to the leg muscles that move the joint. Ligaments are made up of tough bands of tissue too but ligaments connect bone to bone. The knee joint has four major ligaments joining the bones together to keep the knee stable. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) prevents the femur from sliding backwards onto the tibia and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) prevents the femur from sliding forwards onto the tibia…..

The body can be described as having three distinct lines of defense; first, second, and third.

Firstly, describe one component of one of these categories (first, second, or third line of defense) and how it helps the body ward off pathogens.

More details;

In this lesson we’ll be learning about the specific immune system, which is the third line of defense in the body against pathogens. In this lesson, we’ll explore what cells are involved and also how they do their jobs.

What Is the Immune System?

Think of your body as a fortress. Inside, precious cells work day and night to keep you alive. Outside the castle gates lurk dangers, like bacteria and parasites, waiting to come in and take advantage of your resources. The castle walls keep most invaders out, but some sneak through. The ones that penetrate the outer walls might get caught in the moat. However, in the unlikely event something makes it through the outer defense system, there are soldiers on guard ready to fight.

These systems are analogous to the immune system in your body. Your immune system is a collection of cells and tissues that defend your body against invaders. Like the outer walls and moat, your body has non-specific defenses that protect your body against all invaders, including your skin, certain chemicals, and cells that are on guard patrolling your body.

If pathogens do get through, your body activates the third line of defense, which is your specific immune system. Your specific immune system is made of white blood cells called lymphocytes: B-cells and also T-cells. These cells recognize the pathogen invading specifically, compared to the second line of defense, which is activated by any pathogen. Your lymphocytes mount a defense system that is catered to that particular invader.

Explain why different people are motivated by different things

Motivating Your Sales Staff Learning Objective:  Explain why different people are motivate d by different things.

Summary:
The goal of this exercise is to give students practice aligning individual and organisational goals, and thinking like a manager in managing employee motivation. Imagine that you are the management team of a new retail clothing store named Threads. Your company’s business strategy is to provide high-quality customer service and to provide high-quality products. You are not the cheapest store in town, but you expect your employees to create a service-oriented atmosphere that customers will be willing to pay a little extra for.

You recognise that your sales staff will be essential to your store’s success. Further, you want to create a system that motivates them to help create a competitive advantage for your business. Because this is the first store you have opened, you have the opportunity to decide how to best motivate your staff. Market-competitive starting salaries are in establishment, but you decide to allocate 10 percent of the stores’ profits to use to motivate your sales staff in any way you see fit.

TASK:
Firstly, what behaviours would you want from your sales staff?

Secondly, what goals would you set for your sales staff, given your answer to Question 1?

Thirdly, what type of system would you set up to reward these behaviours?

Fourthly, what challenges would you be on the lookout for? How would you proactively address these potential challenges to prevent them from happening?

Discuss your understanding of abuser-behavior assignment

Discuss your understanding of abuser-behavior assignment

Section One
Share your thoughts on the various pervasive issues of dysfunctional family violence. In your response, include the cycle-of-violence hypothesis and the psychological effects of child abuse and also other domestic violence on children.
Many jurisdictions have enacted ‘mandatory arrest’ policies for serious cases of domestic violence.  Discuss your understanding of abuser-behavior, and also whether you believe this is logical/good policy? Consider what is the cycle of abuse and how might family violence affect children. Why don’t women leave abusive relationships?
Remember to use references to support your response.

Section Two
1. Firstly, behavioral and Cognitive Behavioral approaches are built on the idea that behavior is learned.  How does each theory look at the type of learning that causes a client their difficulties?  How would each approach “reteach” more adaptive behaviors?
2. Secondly, as you can tell from this week’s readings, one of the strengths of behavioral and cognitive behavioral approaches is that there is a wide repertoire of techniques and strategies that can be used to help a client change.  Which technique do you think would be most helpful?  Which technique causes you the most concern?

3.  Thirdly, now that we have explored the different counseling theories, which one (or ones) do you feel best fits with your personality and philosophy of life and human nature? Provide examples from the theory to support your answer.
4. Fourthly, many therapists use what is called “technical eclectism” (which is the idea that one would draw from different approaches to help their client).  How do you react to that idea?

Historically, Muslim intellectuals suggest that extremist interpretation of the Quran for political gain within Islam dated back to the Kharijites group who appeared in the 7th century Common Era.

The Kharijites established dangerous dogmas that distinguished them from both orthodox Sunni and Shi’a Muslims from their fundamentally political stance. The Kharijites as a group were predominantly renowned for espousing a deep-seated approach to takfir, through which they professed that other Muslims were disbelievers; hence, their blood can be shaded without recourse.

Additionally, the succeeding Muslim dynasties came to power using Islam as an umbrella to gain political leverage and interpreted the Quran to suit their political aspirations.

In essence, political Islamism is an ideology of resentment directed toward a prevailing order. So long as the political order remains closed, the militant insurgents will have a place in society. Their defiance of the oppressive order and their criticism of the stagnant autocratic rule will resonate with a populace segment.

For over six decades, a rebirth of an ideological movement called Islamism has been at war with the West.

Over these decades, militant groups under the pretext of establishing the Caliphate. Which in their mind is connect ed with an idealize Muslim past. The Militant groups have made worldwide headlines – on various occasions – due to their malicious terrorist attacks on the West in general and predominantly against Muslims whom they deemed opposing to their dogmas.

The rise of Political Islamists and militant groups in various parts of the Muslim world from South Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, the North African, the Sahel, Sub-Saharan, Horn of Africa, Europe, and Australia pose alarming threats to the global security and, more so, regional stability. These militants’ appeal stems from their ability to tap into and persuade marginalized communities, particularly youth, that their grievances can be rectified by establishing a more pure Islamist culture.

Justifications given for attacks on civilians by Islamic extremist groups come from extreme interpretations of the Quran and Hadith, and Islamic law. These include retribution by armed jihad for the perceived injustices of unbelievers against Muslims (especially by Al-Qaeda);[12] the belief that the killing of many self-proclaimed Muslims is required because they have violated Islamic law and are actually disbelievers (kafir); the need to restore and purify Islam by establishing sharia law, especially by restoring the Caliphate as a pan-Islamic state (especially ISIS); the glory and heavenly rewards of martyrdom; the supremacy of Islam over all other religions.[Note 1].[26][27]
