The Tragic history of Dr Faustus usage of symbols

The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus
T‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍he first symbol is the devil and the angel. This represents that every situation has two sides. There is always a good and a bad, a right and a wrong. 2. The next symbol is that of blood. This represents God’s willingness to offer redemption. This is seen when Faustus uses his blood to sign the contract with the devil, and God keeps drying the blood to keep him from signing. 3. The third sign is the use of being invisible when Faustus appears at the Pope’s bathroom. Faustus hides behind being invisible to get away with tormenting the Pope.

Thesis: The use of symbols is obvious when Faustus talks with both an angel and devil, uses his own blood, and becomes invisible, in order to do as he pleases. ESSAY TWO: DRAMA The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus. Length Requirement: 1,000 words (about 3 pages). MLA Format: works cited must be included for primary source (the play). Secondary Source Requirement: Optional (Credible Sources Only). For our second unit, we looked at Christopher Marlowe’s famous tragedy: The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus. While at first glance this seems like a standard Renaissance play, there is also a way in which it speaks to our fears about acquiring knowledge– fears which manifested heavily during‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍ the Scientific Revolution and the Renaissance, when religion and reason had their first significant clashes.

In addition, the play deals heavily with issues of free speech and institutional criticism, and, in a very real sense, was way before its time. Using the semiotic method (Sign, Significance, So What) create a thesis-driven essay which answers one or more of the following questions: How does the play deal with issues surrounding knowledge, the pursuit of forbidden knowledge, and the conflict between knowledge and faith? Additionally, how does the play deal with issues of free speech (or lack thereof?) Additionally, how does the play use humor to get its point across? Also, remember, you do not have to answer or address each of these questions in the essay.

Focusing on just one question is the best way to stay coherent. Start by nailing down “signs” within the play, and try to figure out how Marlowe utilizes these signs to create meaning. Remember that topic sentences must also follow the semiotic model: sign, significance, so what? Refer to the handout: The Semiotic Iceberg in Blackboard for further clarification on how to use this method. You must also include direct quotes from the play in each body paragraph. I am a high school student doing dual enrollment so please write it on a 10th Grade Level please

Cultural Immersion Project: Events Paper (Part 2) Assignment Instructions

Group Encounter

You will attend and actively participate in 2 events related to your selected cultural group. These events can be activities such as church services, Bible/religious studies, community organization meetings, volunteer work at homeless shelters or food kitchens, attendance at support group meetings, fund-raising events, school-related meetings or activities, etc. The key thing is that these activities are sponsored by or provided for your particular cultural group.

It is encouraged that you pray before attending and participating in these events, especially if you are considering attending a religious service outside of your faith tradition. You must spend at least 4 hours total engaged in these 2 events (approximately 2 hours per event). If you attend another cultural group’s church service, do not be surprised if the service is longer than you anticipated and if you are invited to a meal afterwards. Be aware that it may insult some cultural groups if you do not eat with them following the service. The entire event (church service plus meal) counts as 1 activity.

With any activity, it is important that you interact with members of the cultural group to develop an understanding of the event and the motivations of individuals in participating in them.

Consider some of these factors:

Firstly, what are the purposes of the activity/event?
Secondly, what are the cultural underpinnings?
Thirdly, what are the associated religious beliefs or values?
Fourthly, what are the social beliefs or values?
Further, what are the political beliefs or values?
Finally, what are the economic beliefs or values?

You will answer the questions listed below. First person may be used in your answers, and you must observe correct and current APA style. The paper must have a correct title page, and you must use a reference page (no abstract is needed). A word estimate is beside each question; however, the quality of your answer is more important than the word count. You may expand further, but you do not have to do so. Use the following questions as level 1 headings to organize your paper (you can shorten the question into a level 1 heading/title).

What events did you attend? What happened? (approximately 250 words)

How did your experience of actual cultural events compare with the expectations you had developed from the readings and Internet/media explorations you did in Cultural Immersion Project – Part 1? (approximately 250 words)

How did participation in these immersion events impact you emotionally? In other words, what was it like to be a minority in this group? (approximately 250 words)

As you consider your own cultural background, why do you think you responded the way you did? (approximately 250 words)

What are some key things that you have learned about this culture through these events? (approximately 250 words)

Discuss counseling theories and techniques that have been empirically validate as effective with this group. You can use the McGoldrick et al. text for this section, and peer reviewed articles. Use a minimum of three resources. (approximately 250 words).

Student identifies three theoretical approaches (i.e. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Person-Centered, etc.) that have been empirically validated as effective with the selected group (for any credit student must cite a peer reviewed journal supporting the use of the theory given).

Should We Eat Meat?

As health experts increasingly worry about heart disease and obesity, this is an especially good time for Americans to evaluate the merits of meat-eating. This issue goes well beyond health and nutrition, however. According to the Vegetarian Resource Group, the over 8 million vegetarians and vegans who live in the United States become vegetarians for a variety of reasons—nutritional, ethical, environmental, and religious. In other words, their choice to forego meat is not only personal but also cultural. As Jonathan Safran Foer writes in “Let Them Eat Dog,” “Food is not rational. Food is culture, habit, craving, and identity.”

As shown by the increasing popularity of organic and locally grown food as well as by the popularity of books such as Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals (2009) and documentaries such as Food, Inc. (2008) and Fed Up (2014), our culture seems obsessed with healthy eating. Of course, dietary controversies are not new—and neither is vegetarianism, which has long been associate with certain religious traditions (Jainism and various sects of Hinduism, for example).

Western philosophers from Pythagoras to Jean-Jacques Rousseau and René Descartes also advocated forms of vegetarianism. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a vegetarian diet was associate with radical politics. The English Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley endorsed the practice of vegetarianism—and even blamed some of the excesses of the French Revolution on meat-eating. In the United States, vegetarianism has had strong advocates dating back to the founding of our country.

What Are the Effects of Technology on Human Interaction?

The Effects of Technology on Human Interaction, What are they?

Technology is more than an abstract concept associated with advanced tools and systems used by businesses and end-users for convenience and automation of complex tasks.

It also shapes the way societies and people behave, grow, evolve, and develop. Both within their own lives and in their relationships with others. While technology has developed over the millennia that humans have existed – from simple tools such as the wheel, irrigation systems and chariots, to complex tools such as computers, cell phones, the Internet and airplanes – the last century has seen an explosion in technology that has influenced subtle but crucial changes in how humans see the world and interact with others.

Specifically, the Internet and mobile devices (i.e. smartphones, tablet computers, mobile gaming systems, etc.) have radically altered the way people interact with each other, since one of the major impacts of technology is the optimization of communication systems in the form of telecommunications and networking.

Sectionalism, An exaggerated devotion to the interests of a region over those of a country as a whole. Throughout American history, tension has existed between several regions, but the competing views of the institution of slavery held by Northerners and Southerners was the preeminent sectional split and also the defining political issue in the United States from the founding of the country until the American Civil War.

Sectional Rivalry Between New England And The West

As American settlers spread westward during the 18th and 19th centuries, New Englanders felt threatened by the West, which siphoned off many of their region’s most capable and vigorous labourers. Moreover, an expanding railroad network made it possible for Western agriculturalists to produce wool and grain that undersold the products of the poor New England hill country. In turn, Westerners developed their own strong sectional identity. They grew out of their sense of their region’s uniqueness. Their perception that Easterners looked down on them as uncultured. Further, their grievance with the Eastern businessmen who were exploiting them.
