Comics and superheroes position essay

This is a paper that is focusing on the writing of a position essay on comics and superheroes research. The paper also provides additional information to use in the writing of this assignment paper.

Position essay on comics and superheroes research

Comics & Superheroes

The first essay in our class is a position essay in which you are taking a stance on a subject and supporting your position with research and evidence. In a synthesis, your goal is to strengthen points by connecting resources together throughout the essay. Throughout this unit, you will conduct research and find sources that link well together in support of your claim.

For this essay, you will be examining the following question/idea:

Do you believe the benefits of comic books and superheroes, in terms of education, cultural/historical value, and/or entertainment, outweigh the detriments?

In your essay, you have room to focus on whichever area you choose. (i.e. on the educational value/harm, on issues of cultural bias, etc…). However, the primary focus must be on Comics/Superheroes (you can also use manga/anime – video games can be used as a tangential resource but should not be the focus of your essay). This is an open topic, so if you would like to focus on some familiarity with this from a different country (For example, I have had students discuss the cultural influence of comics/superheroes from their home countries), you are welcome to do so.

Make sure you are only incorporating key evidence in support of your claim and eliminate unrelated pieces of information. Be sure to include an introduction that covers the general topic of Comics/Superheroes and have a thesis statement that highlights your central claim. The rest of your paper should focus on reasons supporting your choice. Supporting details should come from both the LIB Guides and your own research. Remember, do not just summarize your sources; you must synthesize!S

Guidelines for citing references

Basic in-text citation rules

The simplest way to do MLA in-text citation is to put all the sourced information in parentheses at the end of the sentence (i.e. just before the period).

Any source information that you provide in-text must correspond to the source information on the Works Cited page. The author’s last name must appear either in the sentence or in parentheses immediately following the quotation or paraphrase.

Example 1 (for citing print sources):
Wordsworth state that Romantic poetry was mark by a “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (263)
Romantic poetry is characterize by the ‘spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Wordsworth, 263)
Both citations above, (263) and (Wordsworth 263) tell readers that the information in the sentence can be located on page 263 of a work by an author named Wordsworth.

Your Works Cited page, would indicate detail about the author Wordworth, as follows:
Wordsworth, William. Lyrical Ballads. Oxford UP, 1967
Citing internet sources:
When using an internet source, you must include the author’s name and name of the internet source in parentheses at the end of the sentence. For example:
“Wordsworth said romantic poetry is characterize by the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Taylor. Slant magazine)
On your Works Cited page, you must include a link to the article. For example:
www.Taylor/slantmagazine.com/wordworthpoetry/. 29 Sept.2019
Citing material from the Lessons of the CAN275 Course Site
“Inequality is the distinction between the haves and the have-nots” (Gregory, Lesson 5.)

On the work cited page you would include the following: Gregory, Bob. CAN275. Lesson #5, plus the page heading.

Identify and analyze problems in a case study assignment

This is a paper that is focusing on the student to identify and analyze problems in a case study. The paper also provides additional information to use in writing the assignment paper well and precisely.

Identify and analyze problems in a case study assignment

The written case analysis will be evaluated based on how well you identify and analyze problems in the case (including how thoroughly and appropriately course concepts are used in the analysis), the adequacy of and support for the recommendations made, and the identification of potential downsides to your solutions—see grading rubric attached. Your arguments should be precise, logical, and supported by one or more course concepts and frameworks. Aim for depth and insight. The idea is not to touch on as many concepts as possible, but rather to articulate a focused, coherent, consistent argument around key issues. Also consider possible risks to your solutions, and how you might mitigate them. In addition, written case analyses will be judged based on the clarity and technical quality of the writing.

Identify and analyze problems in a case study assignment

The analysis should not exceed 8 pages of double-spaced text in 12-point font (8page max) with one-inch margins all around. Appendices containing relevant charts, figures, references, or other material may be in addition to the 8pages, if needed. Do not include your name anywhere in the document. General guidelines for analyzing cases are provided in Appendix B attached. These general guidelines are design to help you structure your analysis, but they are not exhaustive.

Blake Sports Apparel and Switch Active wear: Bringing the Executive Team Together

You will examine the process, dynamics, norms, and therapeutic aspects of two experiential groups along with the styles, skills, and techniques employed by the group leaders. You will then describe, analyze, and also apply your observations in a short paper. By doing so, you will gain insight into group leader roles, behaviors, and responsibilities that are relevant for various human services contexts.

INSTRUCTIONS

Then describe 1–2 situations in which this member was processing his or her issue within the group. What thoughts, feelings, fears, etc. did the member articulate? What skills and techniques did the group leaders (Jerry and Marianne Corey) use to guide the working member and to deepen the focus? How were other group members involved in this process?

2.         Secondly, by encouraging group members to speak up, articulate their feelings, talk out loud, be aware of one another, look at each other, and actively participate, the Coreys established specific norms in the beginning stage of the group that laid the foundation for interpersonal learning and personal growth in the working stage. Describe several of the leadership practices, principles, and skills you noted and discuss your observations and reflections on how these promoted therapeutic benefits for the group members.

3.         Thirdly, examine new insights about yourself as an emerging group leader from the perspective of a biblical worldview.

The Serious Reader Company is a small online retailer operating out of a garage apartment. The owner buys books at garage sales, thrift shops, library sales, and whenever an opportunity arises. The company classifies all books into five categories based on cost of acquisition and estimated sales price. See below for details about books purchased and sold during the last year (20XX).

Price Categories

Units Sold 4,000 1,000 500 400 400
Unites Purchased 6,000 1,200 1,000 1,000 1,000
Resale Price $4.00 $12.00 $20.00 $45.00 $60.00

In addition to purchasing inventory (used books), the company incurs some operating expenses.

Variable Operating Expenses
Shipping per book $1.50
Common fixed expenses
Internet-related costs $10,000
Travel, etc. $4,000
Advertising $1,000
Other overhead $5,000
Case Assignment

Computations (use Excel)

Firstly, prepare a segmented variable costing (behavioral) income statement for the company in good format.
Secondly, prepare a second variable costing statement assuming 90% of all the books in each category purchased were actually sold.
Thirdly, prepare a third variable costing statement assuming that the price is increased by 50% for all five categories (use original sales information).
The owner enjoys the used-book business. Any suggestions as how to turn this into a full-time business venture so the owner can quit his other job? Prepare another income statement to support your idea.
Memo (use Word)

Also, interpret the results from the computations and explain how the information is useful. Write a 4- or 5-paragraph memo to the owner of the business. Start with an introduction and also end with a recommendation. Each of the four or five paragraphs should have a heading.

Short essay to comment on the questions below (use Word). Start with an introduction and also end with a summary or conclusion. Use headings. Maximum length of two pages.

Why do many organizations make the effort to prepare a different type of income statement for internal purposes?
Variable costing is not just about preparing income statements. Provide at least three scenarios in which understanding how costs behave is useful.
Assignment Expectations
Each submission should include two files: (1) An Excel file; and (2) A Word document. The Word document shows the  memo first and short essay last.
