Earth-Sun Relationship

Geog 1114 – Physical GeographyLab 12 – Favorite Topic This will be your final lab assignment. For this lab, you will write a 2-3 page double spaced paper on your favorite topic covered in this course. There have been numerous topics covered throughout the course, from the Earth-Sun relationship at the beginning of the semester to thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, rocks, Plate tectonics, etc. So just go through the course material and decide what topic you enjoyed the most (the Table of Contents will help you). Please only pick ONE topic, be as specific as possible, and don’t forget to mention why this is your favorite topic. You CANNOT write about a video that you watched for lab. Not only was there a lot more material covered in the class than the few videos that you watched for lab, each video simply discussed a specific topic. By themselves, the videos are not actual topics. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Globalization and its effect

Globalization and its effect

The instructor will make recommendations on helpful articles to assist students as they continue with the completion of their research topic. Students are advised to link their research to an issue that he/she feels addresses a real world problem

This will make it easier to find enough research to successfully complete the appropriate number of pages for this exam assignment.  The final exam requires the submission of ten (10) pages. This does not include the title page and reference pages. For the final exam paper, students need to have a minimum of fifteen references. All of these references must be from a scholarly source. Remember, for every reference listed, you must also include an in-text citation in your written work. I encourage you to use the library resources that have been placed in Blackboard to assist you.

A combination of APA formatting and a guide, prepared by Dr. Wilson, can be located in Blackboard. Research topics must be approved by instructor. Civic Issue Research Paper (10 pages, APA format): You will prepare a civic issue research paper that clearly defines and frames a key policy or civic issue that matters to you. You will use web-based research on the Internet to analyze and to evaluate what are the leading nonprofit organizations, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), or policy think tanks that are working on this particular civic problem or policy issue. Also, scholarly journal articles will be used to support your research. Also, add a 150-250 abstract on your paper.

AGILE METHODOLOGIES: SCRUM AND EXTREME PROGRAMMING

Assignment Overview The Case for this final Module involves what are generically known as “Agile methodologies” for software development. If you are new to this whole area, a good place to start is with the following brief articles and discussion of Agile Software Development. For the Case, you should consult the following short readings. VersionOne. (2011). Agile Methodologies. Agile Made Easy. Retrieved from http://www.versionone.com/Agile101/Methodologies.asp Mountain Goat Software Blog (2015). http://www.mountaingoatsoftware.com/blog/differences-between-scrum-and-extreme-programming CollabNet. (2011). Scrum methodology. Retrieved from http://scrummethodology.com/ Scrum Alliance. (2011). Scrum is an innovative approach to getting work done. Retrieved from http://student.labranet.jamk.fi/~salesa/mat/WhatIsScrum.pdf Ambler, S.A. (2007). Answering the “where is the proof that agile methods work” question. AgileModeling. Retrieved from http://www.agilemodeling.com/essays/proof.htm Wells, D. (2009). Extreme programming: A gentle introduction. Retrieved from http://www.extremeprogramming.org/ The dialogue about the relative value of extreme programming vs. the more traditional approaches continues to be lively and largely civil. These issues make up a page in the PPT wiki: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?TheCaseAgainstExtremeProgramming. Please scan the variety of opinions expressed here, and evaluate the various arguments made in light of what you’ve learned about extreme programming. Case Assignment Consult the assigned material, supplemented if you wish with material from the optional readings and perhaps the supplementary background as well, and even other outside reading you might find by yourself to be useful. Then write a short paper stating your position on the question: “What are the criteria of effectiveness used to support the claim that ‘agile software development methodologies’ are a superior design method? Why are Scrum and XP rapidly emerging frameworks as methodoly techniques?” Your paper should be short (5-6 pages, not including cover sheet and references) and to the point. It is to be structured as a point/counterpoint argument, in the following manner. You are expected to: Begin this paper by stating your position on this question clearly and concisely Citing appropriate sources, present the reasons why you take this position. Be sure to make the most effective case you can. Then present the best evidence you can, again citing appropriate sources, against your position — that is, establish what counterarguments can be made to your original position. Finally, review your original position in light of the counterarguments, showing how they are inadequate to rebut your original statement. By the end of your paper, you should be able to unequivocally re-affirm your original position. Assignment Expectations Length: Follow the number of pages required in the assignment excluding cover page and references. Each page should have about 300 words. Your assignment will be evaluated based on the Rubric. You will be particularly assessed on: Your ability to see what the module is all about and to structure your paper accordingly. Your informed commentary and analysis — simply repeating what your sources say does not constitute an adequate paper. Your ability to apply the professional language and terminology of systems design and analysis correctly and in context; you are expected to be familiar with this language and use it appropriately.

Tesco Report

For many years, Tesco (https://www.tescoplc.com/investors/) used a balanced scorecard called the Steering Wheel to measure and manage the performance of the organisation. However, in 2013 Tesco reported a 23.5% fall in half year profits: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24361465 Subsequently, Tesco has stopped using the Steering Wheel and now uses a “Big 6 KPIs” strategy. Discuss why Tesco may have switched their approach away from using the balanced score-card to measure and manage its overall performance, and how the new strategy may be utilised or improved to enhance future business performance. Write in report format and any supporting diagrams or tables should be placed in the appendix. Relevant research material and references should be applied to underpin your analysis. Self and Self-Control

Overview Social psychology can help you understand the world around you and answer questions about why people behave the way they do. Why is it so hard to take a chance and go back to school? Why do people start smoking when they know it’s bad for them? Why do protests turn violent at times? Being able to apply social psychological theory to personal and professional situations as well as to current events is a skill you need in order to take steps toward that understanding. For this assignment, we will focus on theories dealing with culture and nature and the self. Preparation Complete the Self and Self-Control Case Study media piece if you haven’t already or if you would like to make changes to the choices you made. Review the case study you want to focus on and the social psychology theory, behavioral ethics concept, and critical thinking concept you want to use in your paper. If you didn’t finish your research last week, use the Capella library to find a scholarly journal article related to the social psychology theory you chose. You are required to use two articles in your paper. The second article should be one of the following: Duplex Mind: Haggar, M. S. (2013). The multiple pathways by which self-control predicts behavior. Frontiers in Psychology, 4(13). Retrieved from https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2013.00849/full Self-Serving Bias: Sanjuan, P., & Magallares, A. (2014).
