The London 2012 Games

This case explores the multidimensional nature of pricing goods and services. In short, the LOCOG is asking its pricing policy to satisfy many criteria, some of which run counter to one another. For instance, if Williamson could ignore revenues, maximizing attendance would be trivial. Directions Read the case and then answer the following questions within 2-3 pages (double-spaced.) It is a valuable skill to write concisely, please stay within the page limit. What are the various tradeoffs Williamson faces similar to the example noted above? How might his pricing strategies vary by sport? Use three sports as examples and provide general pricing considerations for each. Based on the case study and chapter 5 of the Ticket Operations text, what are the characteristics of a good pricing plan? What are some tactics that you would you recommend LOCOG do to determine ticket prices considering the challenges faced by Williamson? Please save your assignment as a .doc or .docx file and upload it by clicking the Submit Assignment button at the top of the screen.  #1. Describe the fundamental principles of sports media, sponsorship, licensing, ticketing and product sales.

Cultural Artifact Project

Choose and analyze a cultural object or photograph, and why that object or picture – as a cultural artifact – represents an important aspect of your culture. Include in your analysis: •Brief description of the culture(s) in which you were raised. Include descriptions of your family culture, your ethnic and/or religious cultures, and any other cultural influences that have formed the unique individual you are. •A brief description of the current culture(s) you belong to.

How are these cultures different from those in which you were raised? You should use the object/photograph you choose for this assignment to explore the forms and meanings of cultures in your own life; the cultural influences that have formed you; what you have learned about cultural diversity and the diverse cultural influences that have helped to shape who you are.

•Finally, use what you see in the photograph as a way to summarize the dominant values or beliefs that are a part of your personal world-view as a result of cultural influences that have formed you. Your paper should be 2-3 pages in length. Please also include in your paper an image(s) of your object photograph in your paper. Attached to your paper should be a list of references used to support your analysis. A minimum of two sources outside of our textbook are required for this project. References should be listed using APA style.

Free Speech on College Campus

12 point font Times new roman Research and find at least 5 credible sources on a single issue Read and review multiple sources that could be used as support in a position paper on this issue Identify the arguments being made in each of these sources

Determine how these arguments relate to eachother: what topics do your sources have in common? Where do they agree, disagree, or diverge in opinion Describe the discussion of your chosen issue in its entirety using your sources as the representative voices on the discussion Prompt: free speech has one again become a subject of debate in America.

However, unlike moments in the past, students at colleges have been accused of violating the free speech rights of others, and they have come under severe scrutiny for their roles in shutting down conservative and far-right speakers. Others have asserted their right to protest objectionable and or harmful beliefs. Please examine multiple perspectives on free speech on college campuses for your assignment

Facility Field spaces and bleachers

escription

Your proposal paper should cover all aspects of the facility ” field spaces and bleacher” (Its target market, its size, its ideal location, how long it will take to build it, its cost of construction, the fixtures, furniture and equipment it requires, its operation plan, staffing, and the programs that it will offer). Your model should be to a scale appropriate to show adequate details of your facility and its contents. Try to limit its size to one square meter if it is one story or one cubic meter if it is multi-storied. All models should not exceed a personal cost of $25 to construct so you will need to be creative with your “construction” resources. Our textbook focuses mostly of college-level sport/leisure facilities, so for convenience, let’s design all our facilities this semester for a private residential college with an enrollment of 3,000 coed students and 300 faculty and staff located in the rural community of 18,000 citizens in southern Colorado. The college plays sports in a league similar to low major division one school. It has an undergraduate major in “sports and leisure management” with 60 majors and 5 faculty. Its annual tuition is $35.000 and it markets itself as a “western Ivy”. Its student life office boasts about abundant outdoor recreational activities, popular intramural programs, and a mountain rescue team of devoted student volunteers. Outline to follow for Part 1. The objective of the Program(s) to be housed in the facility a. Instructional – what curricular programs will be housed in the facility b. Recreational sports – what recreation and/or intramural activities will the facility host c. Adapted activities – what programs will target inclusion and special needs populations d. Athletics – what interscholastic and intercollegiate programs will use the facility e. Club sports – what club sports will use the facility f. Community/school programs – what community and/or K-12 users will it serve g. Others – any novel or unique users your facility may serve? Part 2. Basic Assumptions to be Addressed in your design a. Will the facility provide a broad program of instruction, adapted activities, intramural and other sports? b. What are the demographics of the population who will use the facility? c. What other facilities now exist that can meet needs similar to your proposed facility (will they assist you, compete with you, etc.)? d. What are the most important considerations for your basic design considerations (e.g., NCAA requirements, ACSM or NSCA recommendations, money, culture, etc.)? e. What facility expansion considerations will you design into your plan should it be desired in the future? f. Outdoor facilities should be located adjacent to indoor facilities that support their program (e.g., playground adjacent to restrooms or picnic areas) g. Consideration will be given to administration and staff needs (e.g., does your athletic training room have an office for the trainers and/or a doctor; where does the wrestling coach reside; how do the offices complement the program – supervision, etc.) h. Does the facility design address existing problems for whatever facility it is intended to replace? i. Other consideration the facility must address? Part 3. Comparable Facility Analysis a. Take site visits to comparable facilities that have been recently constructed to get ideas, observe limitations, discuss operations, and obtain its operator’s regrets and wishes b. Compare those visited facilities to your proposal in cost, design features, and remedies Part 4. Factors Affecting Planning a. Federal and state legislative requirements; League or conference requirements b. Club sports movement or trends that may create demand or go obsolete (e.g., pickleball or racquetball) c. Community education trends that your facility may serve d. A surge in new non-competitive activities being added to the curriculum (e.g., “hot” yoga, hip hop dance, or spin cycling)

An exploratory investigation of the roles and development needs of teachers in promoting problem solving in the secondary school mathematics classroom

Description

Needed: Chapter 1-Introduction, Chapter 2 – Literature review, Chapter 3 – Methodology What this dissertation is about: Worldwide, linking mathematics education and workplace preparedness is a central policy theme. Recently, increased emphasis has been given to the importance of mathematical problem solving (MPS), as it permeates all aspects of life. In England, the national curriculum for mathematics for secondary schools was revised in 2013, giving more weight to MPS. The curriculum concentrates on the essential knowledge and skills students should have, such as the ability to apply mathematical facts and skills to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication (DfE, 2014), giving teachers freedom in how they implement the curriculum. Research on MPS in education has spanned many decades, yielding pendulum-like swings in recommendations on various issues, such as numerous conceptual definitions of MPS, and the effectiveness of teaching general strategies and heuristics. Consensus has not been reached regarding what constitutes MPS in the classroom (English & Gainsburg, 2016; Schoenfeld, 1992; Schoenfeld, 2013). As teachers may be suspicious of educational reform, given its equivocal success over the past decades (OECD, 2014), they may rely more on their own beliefs than on current trends in pedagogy when implementing MPS in their classes (Ho & Hedberg, 2005). Therefore, the dissertation seeks to explore how teachers, guided by their beliefs, promote MPS in their classrooms, and to identify proficiencies needed to implement MPS effectively. Qualitative data has been collected through semi-structured interviews with ten teachers of mathematics from different schools in the north of England, and with different teaching experience, ranging from NQT to Head of Department.

The data is analysed, using Thematical Analysis, for any patterns, common issues, and differences among participants’ views. Also, further analysis will consider how these potential differences could be explained and  what their practical implications in the classroom might be. Social constructivism is used as a methodological source to support this analytic approach. The intention is to highlight issues most relevant to the development needs of teachers to fulfil the demands of the national curriculum. Findings may lead to increased direction for curricula and instructional decisions or future research in MPS to increase effective implementation in classrooms. What is needed: – It should be a coherent story / argument – More theory backup – Justification, “this is the way I did this, this is what the literature says about it”, showing the pros and cons. Chapter One: Introduction (words: ~800) 1.1 Background – Problem solving (PS) and teachers’ beliefs – Why is PS important? The demands of 21st century work and life National curriculum for mathematics – Fact s from research literature 1.2 Aims of the study / Research purpose Chapter Two: Review of the literature (words: ~4000) 2.1 Problem solving – The demands of 21st century work and life – National curriculum for mathematics – Research literature Definition of problem and PS PS strategies (brief) 2.2 Teachers’ beliefs – Theories about teachers’ beliefs Ways of teaching: – traditionally vs inquiry orientated – transmission- orientated vs discovery- and connectionist orientated (mention constructivism) – teaching PS vs teaching mathematics through PS – Impact of teacher’s belief on curriculum reform & student outcome – Teaching and learning practice influence teacher’s belief 2.3 Research questions Chapter Three: Methodology and Methods (words: ~3200) 3.1 Social constructivism as a philosophical approach

Poem Explication

Write an analysis/explication of a poem. Essentially, you will be explicating a poem, then discussing how one literary element within that poem works. In other words, this is essentially what you did with the short story – just with a poem for this assignment. For more information on this, see the material in Module 3. Please pick one of the selections below. The length should be three to six pages, not including the works cited page. Here are the selections from which you may choose: “Sonnet 73” Keep in mind that your paper must have a strong main controlling idea, or thesis. In this case, you will be doing an analysis. Explicate and analyze the poem to pull material out and get a grasp on how it functions as a piece of literature. Then choose one of the literary elements that we have discussed and explore how it is working in the poem to make the poem work and create meaning. When you have decided on an element, go back to your explication and use it to draw evidence from the poem to support your thesis. You will probably have at least three or four main points to make to argue your thesis; you will need specific evidence to support each point. Also, keep your overall structure in mind: • Your opening should be engaging and let the reader know what you are arguing. • The middle should include the main points of that argument, presented in a logical order, with transitions from one paragraph to another so that your essay flows well. NOTE: For each main point, you need to present supporting evidence, and be sure that you use reasoning to clearly tie that evidence to the main point. • The ending should tie it all together, give a sense of closure and hopefully leave the reader with an additional parting insight.

Walt Whitman

In Song of Myself, Whitman attempts to reconcile and bring into harmony all the diverse people, ideas, and values that make up the American nation. Which groups of people does he choose to focus on particularly? How does he describe people of different races, social classes, genders, ages, and professions? Remember that you must include quotes from the story in your entry. It is important to remember that you do not have to agree with me, or anyone else, for that matter, in your interpretation of what you read. You MUST, though, support your own ideas with specific references to the text and quotes from the text to support your assertions. Your response should contain quotes from the poem or short story to support your ideas. This is really, really important. Also, be sure to cite the source correctly. To cite the source, you should include the author’s last name and page number of the selection. If you access the source online, use the URL. Here is an example if you are using the text: (Smith 34). And here is an example using an online source:

Problem Statement

Find a research study that is relevant to your chosen research topic or field of study in another part of the world. Clearly state what the problem statement is for that study and what the purpose statement is for that study. Then, analyze whether the purpose statement directly aligns with the problem statement. If it does align, explain how it aligns. If it does not align, state what needs to change for alignment to occur. Make sure to attach the research study to your discussion posting for others to be able to review. Resource must be scholarly and link to must have link to research study.
