The Economics of Healthcare
Paper details:
According to studies undertaken by the US Department of Agriculture, the price elasticity of demand for cigarettes is between – 0.3 and – 0.4 and the income elasticity is about + 0.5. Suppose Congress, influenced by studies linking cigarette smoking to cancer, plans to raise the excise tax on cigarettes so the price rises by 10%. Estimate the effect that the price increase will have on cigarette consumption and consumer spending on cigarettes (in percentage terms). A few states and cities across the United States have imposed a soda tax or a sugar tax on soft drinks, to reduce overall sugar consumption. In most forms, the tax is designed to discourage the production, importation, and purchase of carbonated, uncarbonated, sports and energy drinks with excess levels of added sugar. This kind of tax is a matter of public debate and often strongly opposed by food and beverage producers. Advocates promote this tax as an incentive to cut down on unhealthy diets and offset the growing economic costs of obesity. Do you support a sugar or soda tax? If so, why? If not, why not? Please discuss in detail by showing solid economic reasons to support your view. Is analytical in nature so there is no strict format requirement or minimum words requirement.

Prepare e interprofessional staff update on HIPAA and appropriate social media use in health care. Introduction Health professionals today are increasingly accountable for the use of protected health information (PHI). Various government and regulatory agencies promote and support privacy and security through a variety of activities. Examples include: Meaningful use of electronic health records (EHR). Provision of EHR incentive programs through Medicare and Medicaid. Enforcement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules. Release of educational resources and tools to help providers and hospitals address privacy, security, and confidentiality risks in their practices. Technological advances, such as the use of social media platforms and applications for patient progress tracking and communication, have provided more access to health information and improved communication between care providers and patients. At the same time, advances such as these have resulted in more risk for protecting PHI. Nurses typically receive annual training on protecting patient information in their everyday practice. This training usually emphasizes privacy, security, and confidentiality best practices such as: Keeping passwords secure. Logging out of public computers. Sharing patient information only with those directly providing care or who have been granted permission to receive this information. Today, one of the major risks associated with privacy and confidentiality of patient identity and data relates to social media. Many nurses and other health care providers place themselves at risk when they use social media or other electronic communication systems inappropriately. For example, a Texas nurse was recently terminated for posting patient vaccination information on Facebook. In another case, a New York nurse was terminated for posting an insensitive emergency department photo on her Instagram account. Health care providers today must develop their skills in mitigating risks to their patients and themselves related to patient information. At the same time, they need to be able distinguish between effective and ineffective uses of social media in health care. This assessment will require you to develop a staff update for the interprofessional team to encourage team members to protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient information.

The overall goal of the Session Long Project is to examine health care delivery in the United States from a strategic perspective. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or in short Affordable Care Act, changed the landscape of the health care industry. For this assignment, read the article “Information asymmetries and risk management in healthcare markets: The U.S. Affordable Care Act (ACA) in retrospect” by Mendoza, (SEE attached) and write a paper to respond to the following questions: 1.Discuss the “moral theory” contained in this article. 2.Explain whether you agree or disagree with the author that the ACA was an answer to health care accessibility. 3.Explain whether you believe or do not believe that ACA will improve patient care. 4.Discuss what you think President Trump should do with the ACA. 5.Discuss what strategies you would recommend to deal with economic realities of health care based on your own research.
Please respond to the following questions based upon these course objectives:
1Understand other health professions’ scopes of practice to maximize contributions within the healthcare team. (AACN VII.2)
2 Employ collaborative strategies in the design, coordination, and evaluation of patient-centered care. (AACN VII.3)
3 Use effective communication strategies to develop, participate, and lead interprofessional teams and partnerships. (AACN VII.4).
4Apply the best available evidence from nursing and other sciences as the foundation for practice.( AACN IX.2)
5Advocate for patients, families, caregivers, communities and members of the healthcare team. (AACN IX.3).
6Use epidemiological, social, and environmental data in drawing inferences regarding the health status of patient populations and interventions to promote and preserve health and healthy lifestyles.
(AACN IX.6). 7Use knowledge of illness and disease management to provide evidence-based care to populations, perform risk assessments, and design plans or programs of care. (AACN IX.7)
. 8Incorporate core scientific and ethical principles in identifying potential and actual ethical issues arising from practice, including the use of technologies, and in assisting patients and other healthcare providers to address such issues. (AACN IX. 8).
9 Apply advanced knowledge of the effects of global environmental, individual and population characteristics to the design, implementation, and evaluation of care. (AACN IX. 9).
10 Establish therapeutic relationships to negotiate patient-centered, culturally appropriate, evidence-based goals and modalities of care. (AACN IX.13).
Please answer the following questions with supporting examples and full explanations. For each of the learning objectives, provide an analysis of how the course supported each objective. Explain how the material learned in this course, based upon the objectives, will be applicable to professional application
Financing Healthcare and Public Health Insurance” Please respond to the following: Defend or critique the primary alternative sources of healthcare funding in the United States. Analyze the main effect on the resource owner of one (1) of the following means of financing healthcare: insurance premiums, tax subsidies, and mandated benefits. Provide at least one (1) example which illustrates the selected effect to support your response. Analyze the key types of policies required for the delivery of a public health insurance program, and hypothesize their main effects on the achievement of social goals overall. Provide at least one (1) example of such effects to support your response.
Since the Affordable Care Act became the law of the land, there has been much written concerning its ongoing economic impact on our nation’s economy.
There have also been many sound reports that few of the benchmarks set for it have been reached. Both good and bad has been reported concerning this massive legislation. Now that we have had history with the “ACA” we have started to see its impact first hand. The heated debate regarding what to do next with it has been ongoing. Politicians are not economists, and are not always known for making sound financial choices. Some have argued that the government neglected to listen to its own economists, the Congressional Budget Office when it passed this bill into law.
Using the economic principles which you have learned throughout the semester, write an amendment to, or a replacement for the Affordable Care Act. The changes you create will need to accomplish the original stated goals of the Affordable Care Act. For those of you who cannot remember what they were, here is a quick recap: Bring down the overall cost of health care as it related to GNP Provide health care services for the entire population Provide a full prescription drug benefit for the elderly
Expand the entire scope of health care services As an economist it is your choice what to do next. You may replace or repair the system at will, but will need to explain why and how. I want to stress to you that this is not an attack on the President personally, and as such please keep the political rhetoric out of your paper. Also keep faith out of it. The argument that “this will work” if we get everyone to believe in it, is both foolish and dangerous. Book as resource: Hicks, Lanis L., (2014). • ( The topic I chose is “Cancer-How it affects Women”) writer please note that it must be related to women only. The initial topic is cancer, i said on the order how it affects women, but if there is a better one pertaining to women, I’m open. Please note that I appreciate your working with me,thank you. • Part A of this project includes the primary research information you would prepare in order to put together a presentation on your topic. It will basically look like a research paper using subheadings to be used in presenting your topic. • Part B of this project will be a quick outline document that you would provide as a handout at your workshop. This handout can also include additional charts or appendices with an explanation. Submit the Research Project: Part B via the assignment link and also upload this assignment to the Research Project File Exchange under the My Groups tab CLASS DO NOT FORGET TO SITE YOUR SOURCES IN TEXT, AND IN REFERENCES. Part A: 1. Select one topic from the topic list provided. Decide on a topic for your research project and post it in the Research Project Topic Discussion Board forum in order to receive approval from your instructor. Each student will research a different topic; therefore, once a topic has been selected, it will no longer be available. Topics will be approved on a “first come, first served” basis. 2. Research your topic by looking for information on treatment options or intervention approaches to assist women with that particular problem/disorder. Investigate your topic in depth; do not provide a broad survey of the topic. 3. Part A of the project should be 12-15 pages in content length. (The abstract, appendices and reference list are not included as content.) 4. The entire paper should follow APA format. 5. You must research at least 12-15 “professional” resources for your topic. A majority (about 80%) of these resources need to be scholarly books, professional journal articles, or professional online websites with no more than 3-4 from professional websites. A combination of all three resources will earn you a better grade. Also, a majority (about 90%) of your resources must be published within the last 10 years.
