Background – “Sounds like Toronto” Product
A new digital exhibit and resource describing Toronto’s musical history was develop ed to complement high school curricula in English, History and Music. The exhibit and resource is entitle “Sounds like Toronto” (abbreviate d SLT in the following). The exhibit and also resource is bilingual, English and French.

SLT content includes 35 stories with about 250 images in the exhibition.

Some of the stories deal with artists while others deal with venues and community spaces.

The learning objectives of SLT is to communicate to youth (age 15-18) that music is a vital part of Canada’s history. That music is a driver of social change, and that understanding one’s heritage can be fun.

To date, research on SLT indicates that music teachers are particularly enthusiastic about the product. As are teachers who teach two of the three subject areas (i.e. two of either Music, History or English/French).
