Homelessness

Length: This is a research paper with 5 – 6 pages. Your paper should thoroughly develop ideas based on the assignment and questions for consideration. Additionally, your paper should satisfactorily meet all requirements listed in the rubric. Formatting requirements can be reviewed in the syllabus. Please see me if you have any questions regarding the formatting. Prompt: This research project is largely of your own choosing; however, it must be about a problem for which you are proposing a solution. This is a PROBLEM / CAUSE / SOLUTION paper and your paper will have these headings.  Your paper must meet the length requirements as outlined above and must use MLA citation format.  The final version of your project (essay) must have at least 4 secondary sources; 3 of those sources must be scholarly articles from peer- reviewed journals; 1 additional source is of your choosing (you may include other sources to include extra scholarly journals, primary sources, or sources from scholarly books). This is a minimum – your individual project may require more sources depending on your topic. Along the way, you will be required to identify sources (6 scholarly journals articles, summarized in weekly reports) and to incorporate a specific number in your rough drafts. Please read the requirements for each step carefully.  You must follow the organization outlined in more detail below. You must have an introduction (with no heading); a section labeled PROBLEM; a section labeled CAUSES; and a section labeled SOLUTIONS.  Please review the rubric carefully – the rubric will guide you toward the final grade you desire. Please also carefully consider my suggestions as they will help to make the project easier and help to give you a better grade! My helpful suggestions:  Your problem should be as narrow as possible. We will work on this as we move forward in the semester. You can start your research very broadly, but eventually it should be extremely narrow and well-defined.  Carefully consider your own subject-position in relation to your topic. Why should I trust you as an authority? Once you have finished this research and written this paper, you will have completed significant research and formulated an opinion – so I hope you do consider yourself at least an amateur authority on your chosen topic!  Use Headings! This will help you organize your thoughts.  For these journals, you are required to locate scholarly journal articles and book chapters, correctly cite the source using MLA format, and answer the following questions each week a journal is due: o What is the author’s main claim? o What types of evidence does the author use to make this claim? o Who is the author’s intended audience? o Is the author trustworthy? How do you know? Could there be biases? If so, what are those biases?
