Green Buildings
Description Instructions: This course was designed to serve as an introduction to green building / construction within the greater context of preparing students for a Master’s Degree. Concepts, viewpoints and fundamentals essential for understanding the residential, commercial and industrial structure development are presented in lecture. However, these materials often focus on a wider view of practices and considerations necessary for the design of future LEED, BREEAM and/or other sustainable buildings.
The intent of this assignment is to give students the opportunity to further evaluate a single development (unique building or complex) of their choice (not expressly covered in class) with regards to sustainable development. Students should independently select a candidate project for analysis. • http://www.usgbc.org/projects • http://www.breeam.com/ • Or other appropriate international equivalents… Themes to be explored include but are not limited to: • Type of project / construction (Residential (Single or Multi), Commercial, Industrial,…) • Stakeholders (Owner, Engineers, Architects, Contractors…) • Technologies employed? • Certification levels or project recognition? • Community integration/ impact. Basic Requirements: • Minimum 2000 words or equivalent (8 pages, double-spaced) • 12 font size (Ariel, Times New Roman , or Calibri) • Title Page (Name, Title, Abstract, Date) o 200-300 word Abstract • Page Numbers • Bibliography / References Page (APA, MLA, or ASCE) o A minimum of 10 cited references (web, journal, govt reports…no Wikipedia!)
