This is a paper that is focusing on the Understanding Systemic Anti-Black Racism in the US. The paper also provides additional information to use in the writing of the assignment paper. Below is the assessment description to follow:

This assignment is grounded in the call by Black and non-Black “co-conspirator”* scholars and activists to participate in teaching and learning about anti-Black racial violence, policing, and community organizing, as well as supporting anti-racism (most recently with the #ScholarStrike or #ScholarStrike).  *on the difference between “co-conspirator” (similar to “accomplice”) and “ally” read this and/or see this.

Instructions:

1. Firstly: read at least one of these readings: “Five Steps Latinos Can Take to Combat Anti-Blackness” (in Spanish); “White Allies: Your Anger Belongs in the Streets, Not at Home” ; Opportunities for White People in the Fight for Racial Justice AND review at least one of these two websites/curriculum for speaking with children about racism and racial justice: Chicana M(other)work’s Social Justice Summer Curriculum for Children of Color ; Ibram X. Kendi’s Antiracist Baby board book and also learning guide

2. Then: spend at least 1 hour reading articles and/or watching videos from these lists:

(it is long and thorough, I encourage you to focus on the following sections: Criminalization of Black People; Black Lives Matter Movement; & Resources for White People and also Non-Black People of Color)

3. Finally, write a 2.5 to 3 double-page Sentipensante Writing Response based on reflecting on the readings/videos you choose from above and taking one or more of the following actions:

i. Having an intentional conversation with a Latina/x family member or friend about internalized racism, anti-Black racism, and African roots in Latin America, as well as bringing visibility to Black Latina/o/xs historical figures/activists/artists/scholars via social media
