Locate one recent news article from a reliable news source that illustrates one of the specific types of crime mentioned in the Module 6 readings. Do not select a broad crime typology (violent, property, political) Select a news article illustrating a specific crime included in one of these categories. You need to locate a news article that is detail enough for you to thoroughly address the following assignment elements. Consider that you may be able to get more information on high-profile crimes falling under the crime typologies covered in this Module.

Provide an overview of the crime typology your selected crime falls under. Also, a definition of the type of crime you selected in your own words (still properly cite your textbook). In this introduction, be sure to include current data (numbers, statistics, etc., no older than 2016) indicating the extent of your selected crimes in the United States. For instance, you selected auto theft (a type of property crime). You would provide a definition of auto theft in your own words (including all important legal elements in your definition), and briefly discuss the property crime typology. You would then provide data on the extent of this crime in the U.S. using the UCR and other reliable sources.

For example, if you selected rape and located a news article on that crime, you might discuss the type of rape illustrated in the article, the variety of rape illustrated in the article (power, anger, or sadistic), and/or the cause(s) of rape and how one or more of these causes is illustrated in your article. All of these concepts are discussed in the Module 6 readings on interpersonal violence. Be sure to provide in-text citations and references for all sources (textbook, UCR, news article, etc.).

Be sure to clearly discuss the relevant factors that lead to that conclusion. Do you see any gaps in public policy with respect to these crime(s)?
