Prompt: Our research paper will focus on some aspect of Entertainment. This is our umbrella topic. This means that you get to select any topic that you believe fits under the “umbrella” of entertainment. This can be travel, food, television, athletics, dancing, reading books, video gaming, etc. Whatever your topic, you must be able to build it into a research paper. This means that you will need to connect it to a larger issue. For example, if you elect to write about traveling—you may want to consider this topic within the scope of “what makes people feel the need to visit places” or “is travel good for a person’s mental health.”

Elements of the Paper: Our research paper must contain the following elements: claim/argument, evidence/explanations to support your argument, acknowledgment of the counter-claim, and an explanation or rebuttal as to why it does not apply to this situation. The goal of this assignment is for you to look beyond your ideas and beliefs and structure a coherent and valid argument about your topic.

Sources: You are also required to find at least FOUR sources to support your paper.

Two of your sources MUST come from the NVC library, but I will allow you to choose the other sources so long as they are valid and verifiable. Because you must incorporate sources in your paper, you will use “In-text” citations and are required to have a Works Cited page.

Please note: You are LIMITED to ONE blockquote. A block quote is a quote that is ~5 lines or more.
In addition to writing your research paper, you are required to construct an Annotated Bibliography. We will discuss this portion of the project separately but know that it is an essential part of this project.
Process: As we have been doing, we will continue to approach this assignment in various activities. Some will be conducted in class; others will be assigned for homework. You must keep track of all assignments.

Length: 3-4 full pages. Note: this does NOT include your Works Cited page.

Your paper must demonstrate your best work. This means minimal grammar mistakes, a strong thesis/POV, and your paper must be well organize with all the information supporting your thesis.
I am looking for the following in your paper: -Structure—organization, the flow of thought, transitions, and format; Grammar/Mechanics—sentence structure, punctuation mechanics; Language—vocabulary, use of vocabulary, tone; and also Content/Information—clarity of purpose, critical and original thought, use of examples
