Case Study Information:
Leah is a 6-month old infant whose newborn was 6 lbs, 8 oz with a length of 20. At 6 months, Leah weighs 18 lbs and is 26 “in length. Her mother, Kelly, had decided to breastfeed Leah up to her 6th months as Kelly will soon return to her fulltime job. For the past month, Kelly has noticed that Leah has not taken as much breastmilk as usual, despite the fact the Kelly produces a lot of milk.

As a first-time mother, Kelly is concerned about weaning and beginning Leah on solid foods. She is not sure when to begin and what foods to initiate feeding. Kelly knows that protein is important for babies and wonders what kinds of protein foods to feed Leah. She also plans to make certain that Leah does not become an overweight child like many she has seen, so she decided to be very conscientious about fat in Leah’s diet. She would like to prepare some baby foods at home in order to save money.
