Leader selection and research

1) Select a leader in Social Justice that interests you, either historical or current.

2) Research the leader with particular emphasis on what leadership skills were most important in their impact on society. Look for the strength and leadership skills that are described in the lectures. Give good examples that illustrate the skills. Although you should look for these skills, not all skills will be evident in every leader. What are they well known for? What examples can you give from their actions and life? For instance:

– From lecture 2, What attributes does the leader show?

– From lecture 3, What strengths do you think the leader has demonstrated?

– From lecture 5, Is the leader known for clear argumentation and logical reasoning?

– From lecture 6, What skills of core leadership does he/she possess?

– From lecture 7, What adaptive leadership skills is he/she a master of? – From lecture 7, Does the leader display emotional intelligence?

3) Give one example of how the leader failed at a skill that limited or diminished the leader’s impact on society. No leader is perfect and often they have faults. Was the leader too arrogant? Not a team player? Emotionally unstable at times? You get the idea.

4) What not to do for this presentation:

– Do not give a biography of the leader. Of course, some background will be needed but it should be minimal. Instead focus on the skills you are learning in class and finding examples where they displayed them.

– Do not list leadership skills without giving detailed examples. For example, President Clinton was well known for being charming and making people feel at ease around him. Here is an example of his skill at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o_EK4EjuEY Presentation format

Have a slide describing how the leader came up short in an area and how it affected their ability to lead. Remember, no leader is perfect. Slide 9. Conclusion.
