LABOR MARKET PARTICIPATION AMONG OLDER CANADIANS
This assignment asks you to identify key themes in the recent Canadian literature related to the topic you have chosen in last Assignment. What do we already know about this issue? DON’T just summarize one paper, then the next, then the next, etc. You need to organize what you have read analytically. For example, group studies that make the same point, use the same methods, etc. Or, contrast studies that address the same question but come to different conclusions. Or, tell the story of how the literature has developed over time. It is quite likely that no-one else has studied exactly the same topic as you have chosen (e.g., a comparison of earnings of young female workers in New Brunswick and PEI between 2007 and 2017). But, there are likely other studies about young workers, or about female workers or about earnings in Canada between 2007 and 2017 or about the labour markets in New Brunswick and PEI. Any of these papers may be useful to you. Also, some topics will have many relevant papers. In this case, limit yourself to 4 or 5 most recent/relevant for your analysis. Restrict your attention to Canadian scholarship (unless you check with me first). There are many important differences across countries in policies and institutions that may limit comparability with Canada. Also, restrict your attention to research papers in peer-reviewed journals or in government or other peer-reviewed working paper series. Your assignment should include an introductory statement of your purpose, provide a logically ordered analysis of your chosen papers and conclude with a brief synopsis of key points and/or suggested issues not yet covered in the literature.
