This course was designed to serve as an introduction to the principles of sustainable transportation; within the context of preparing students for a Master’s in Sustainable Smart Cities.  Concepts, viewpoints, and also fundamentals essential for understanding the Green Infrastructure and Transportation agenda are in lecture.  However, these materials will focus on a wider view of policies and considerations necessary for the design of future cities and metropolitan areas.

The intent of this assignment is to give students the opportunity to further evaluate a single global city / metropolitan area of their choice with regards to sustainable transportation.

Themes to explore include but are not limit to:

Transportation challenges faced / overcome
Conventional vs. alternative strategies
Technology employed
Driver / pedestrian safety
Stakeholders (Engineers, Architects, Govt,)
Population, demographics, impact…

Goals:
The goals of this assignment are to help you:
Advance your systematic understanding of the principles of sustainable transportation and approaches to best practice in sustainable transportation planning.
Develop a critical appreciation of the complex inter-relationships between urban design, transportation, walkability, and livability within a smart and sustainable city.
Appreciate the potential social enhancements resulting from well-integrated green infrastructure.
