The people of Lebanon have experienced an economic crisis for the past several decades. The end of the civil war in 1990 was suppose to be a positive turning point for Lebanon. However, the country fell into deeper turmoil and systematic corruption. Being full Lebanese this topic hits deep with me as I have seen the suffering first hand. This situation in Lebanon has made it nearly impossible to live in forcing many Lebanese people to emigrate.
Because of these complications, I and other Lebanese people started the Future Movement, a non-profitable organization.
Our mission was to harmonize and bring together the Lebanese community to help those in need in Lebanon. My team and I held meetings. We discussed ways to help and donate to Lebanon, and how we could keep our community here in Los Angeles, since Lebanon needed this support.
From meeting every week, we held picnics and events to keep this community together, which led to having direct communication with the politicians in Lebanon. One event that really stuck out to me that we put together was a dinner that we held in an auditorium where other people in the organization made speeches speaking on the money that we have raised and also how we have become noticed here in Southern California. This event stuck out to me because it was a challenge to bring our community into one setting. In the end it brought a lot of awareness to our hometown in Lebanon. Additionally, this leadership experience of bringing together the Lebanese community led to a positive impact on others. Not only did we impact the people of Lebanon, but we attracted others in Southern California to do the same.
