Meteorology and Air Quality of February 2020 at UNR

Purpose:
Learn about typical and anomalous air quality and meteorology in Reno/UNR for February 2020.
Work with raw data to get a feel for time alignment issues, and also use of Excel data base functions for making Diel averages (24 hour averages).

Firstly, Learn how to do a case study for diagnosing and understanding specific events.

Secondly, Learn about and work with data from the sonic anemometer, low cost air quality sensor SPS30, and the BAM1020 instrument used for PM measurements in cities to regulate air quality.

Thirdly, Learn how to use HYSPLIT back trajectory analysis and Google Earth to determine likely source regions for windblown dust.

Fourthly, Learn about remote sensing with the Cimel and MFRSR sunphotometer and spectral irradiance for obtaining column aerosol optical depth (AOD), with an eye towards satellite remote sensing of AOD.

Further, Learn how to use Python to make wind roses and air pollution roses.

Discussion:

This assignment is open ended in that we will work on it as a group, online and outside of class, also will consider as many learning experiences as possible with the time remaining this semester.

We routinely measure local and column properties of the atmosphere from the roof of the Physics building, with standard and , also, custom instruments of our own manufacture.

Reno also has the National Weather Service and many weather stations at various elevations.
Our unique location results in brilliantly clear days, inversions with air quality issues, also, days with windblown dust arriving from nearby dry lake beds.

Notes:
Please be sure to reach out to me during online class or afterwards if you are having issues.
We will make sure everyone is caught up and complete in working through this assignment.
Feel free to share your skills and expertise with the everyone.

Deliverables:
Firstly, a report with references, as we have been doing all semester. See below for report contents.

Secondly, a presentation containing your specific case study. See below for details.

Discuss how your core values inform or influence your perspective

Content

Describe a “real life” instance of your selected social issue in a professional or a personal setting.
Discuss your perspective on your selected social issue, including the reasons for your viewpoint.
Discuss how your core values inform or influence your perspective on your selected social issue.
Demonstrate that you are really thinking about your issue—don’t settle for easy answers, don’t pretend that conflicting evidence doesn’t exist, and don’t feel that you have to take an either-or position.
Discuss the complexities of your selected social issue. For example, do not just conclude that using academic language is always good, or that government surveillance is always bad, or that wealth automatically leads to health. Think about the intricacies of these issues and how they play out in everyday life.

Organization

Firstly, include an introductory paragraph, where you clearly outline a “real-life” instance of your social issue and you give a thesis statement that indicates your perspective (see Part 2: Writing Your Introduction for an example).
Secondly, include three body paragraphs where you include details, examples, and quotes from at least three of the course readings to help you develop and support your key points (see Part 3: Writing Your Body Paragraphs. for an example).
Thirdly, include one body paragraph where you discuss how your core values inform or influence your perspective on your selected social issue (see Part 3: Writing Your Body Paragraphs. for an example).
End your essay with a concluding paragraph where you restate your thesis, summarize your key points, and leave the reader with the “so what?” ( see Part 4: Writing Your Conclusion for an example).

Grammar and Mechanics

Your paper should be written according to the standards for academic writing, with attention to the following:
punctuation: this includes things such as proper use of commas, colons, and apostrophes.
word-level accuracy: this includes things such as proper capitalization, spelling, word-tense, and usage.
sentence-level accuracy: this includes things such as proper sentence boundaries, subject-verb agreement, and pronoun-antecedent agreement.
Take time to proofread after you’ve written your essay. Think about the kinds of writing mistakes you tend to make (like using “text-speak” or sentence fragments) and watch out for those. Reading your paper aloud is a good way to catch any mistakes.

Discuss how your core values inform or influence your perspective

Sources and Documentation

You are to use three sources for this assignment. Your sources should be selected from the assigned course readings on your selected issue (language and power; freedom and security; health and wealth).
Your paper should use APA-style documentation for in-text citations. You do not need to complete a reference page.

Format and Length

Your paper should include a proper header and title.
Your paper should be typed, double-spaced and in 12-point font.
Also, your final product should be a minimum of six paragraphs (about 900-1100 words) in length. However, the quality of the content of this essay is most important. Be sure to fully answer the prompt.

More details;

Dag Pike looks at a new tanker concept design from Japan. It was developed in response to an expected demand for transportation of liquid hydrogen.

This developed plans for what would be the world’s first ship designed to transport liquid hydrogen. This development comes in anticipation of a developing market for liquid hydrogen. It’s resulting mainly from the adoption of fuel cells in land transportation. Fuel cells can operate using several different gases but hydrogen is one of the most effective gases for this purpose.Much of the focus in the development of liquefied hydrogen (LH2) has been on the containment system that will be used to carry the liquid gas. Additionally, Kawasaki has used its extensive experience with the design and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ships as the basis for developing the liquid hydrogen containment system. Liquid hydrogen is a more volatile that LNG and so a modified containment system is required. Now Kawasaki has been granted approval by Class NK for the design and also fabrication of a containment system suitable for installation on the liquefied hydrogen carrier. This classification approval is based on complying with the IGC Code and ship classification rules as well as being based on the risk evaluation results from the hazard identification safety analysis (HAZID).

The containment tanks developed for liquid hydrogen are accumulation type cargo containment vessels with a capacity of 1,250m³. Liquid hydrogen has to be transported at a very low temperature – below -252°C – so the containment vessel will be cylindrical in shape and carried horizontally. Also, it will be installed entirely free from the ship’s structure…..

Select one New Testament scripture and meaningfully muse

From the given list select one (1) New Testament scripture and meaningfully muse on the questions provided.

1.      Matthew 5: 1-12   The Beatitudes- How do you them: as impossible ideals, as goals to be achieved, as wishful blessings upon those who suffer, or as hallmarks of God’s Kingdom? Why?

2.      Romans 7: 14-25    Who is the “I” in the passage? Is it Paul or is Paul speaking for all of humanity? Do Paul’s words confirm at times your own experience of conflict and inability to make the right choices?

3.      Galatians 5: 22-26    What does Paul mean by “fruit of the Spirit”? What types of actions oppose the work the Spirit and what types promote the work of the Spirit? Explain fully.

4.      Colossians 1: 15-20  This is an early Christian hymn of praise to Christ, the creator of all. What image of Christ emerges from this reading for you? What powers are attributed to Christ? Does this image conform to Christ as you have come to know him?

The GE’s Talent Machine the making of a CEO case study

GE’s Talent Machine: The Making of a CEO
Case Questions
1.       Firstly, while most companies have difficulty producing sufficient quality candidates for top management succession, how has GE been able to create a surplus? What philosophy, policies, and practices have made it a “CEO factory” as Fortune called it, and easily the world’s best machine for churning out corporate talent as The Economist described it?

2.       Secondly, how generalizable are GE’s management development policies and practices? How transferable across cultures? Across industries? Across companies?

3.       Thirdly, as Jeff Immelt, is it time to tune up or even overhaul GE’s management development policies and practices? Specifically, how would you deal with proposals to change the vitality curve, MBA and international recruitment, and the executive bands?

4.       Fourthly, what lessons do you take from this case? Reflecting on your analysis – positive or negative- of GE’s development of its management pipeline, what do you see as the key success factors in making talent management what Immelt claims is an important source of competitive advantage for the company?

Describe why you are seeking a social work degree

Why you are seeking a social work degree and how your career goals fits with the mission and values of the social work profession.

More details;

Why Choose the Social Work Profession?

Social work is the helping profession.

The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet basic and complex needs of all people, with a particular focus on those who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. If you’re looking for a career with meaning, action, diversity, satisfaction, and a variety of options, consider social work.

Social work is different from other professions, because we focus both on the person and their environment. Social workers deal with the external factors that impact a person’s situation and outlook. And we create opportunities for assessment and intervention, to help clients and communities cope effectively with their reality and change that reality when necessary. Social workers help clients deal not only with how they feel about a situation but also with what they can do about it.

In thousands of ways, social workers help people of every age and background, all across the country. The most well-known aspect of the social work profession is providing direct services or therapy directly to clients. We help guide people to critical resources and counsel them on life-changing decisions. We also advocate for change to improve social conditions and strengthen the social net.

There are more than 600,000 professional social workers in the United States, and we all either have a BSW, MSW or a DSW/PhD in Social Work. There are more clinically trained social workers than clinically trained psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurses combined.

This is a paper that requires the student to demonstrate how the past is relevant to the present. The paper also provides additional information to use in writing the assignment paper well.

Demonstrate how the past is relevant to the present

Goal: Demonstrate how the past is relevant to the present through comparing the Black Death Documents with modern social reactions to our current pandemic.

Task: Write a 3-4 page essay that compares the Black Death social reactions with TWO modern documents of your choice. Using the questions below as guides, write a cohesive comparison essay that links how human reactions to pandemics have similarities and differences.
Questions: (Use evidence from the documents as well as Two Modern sources to demonstrate how human social behavior continues to be predictive in the face of a pandemic.

How do governments react in the face of pandemics? What steps do they take or what tactics do they employ to slow down or stop the spread?
What is the response of the religious community? Also, what practices do they engage in or how is it view in the lens of the religious community?
Medical knowledge, treatments, and home remedies. In what ways do humans seek understanding in the midst of pandemics and what things are they willing to seek out in order to “cure” themselves?
Blaming others. Why do humans chose an outward source to blame the infection on and what are the implications?
Use two outside modern sources in addition to the provided document.

a. State H0 and H1.

b. Find the p value or critical value(s).

c. Draw a conclusion in context of the situation.

4. (CLO 3) Create a scatterplot with the height on the x-axis and the weight on the y-axis. Find the correlation coefficient between the height and the weight. What does the correlation coefficient tell you about your data? Construct the equation of the regression line and use it to predict the weight of a person who is 68 inches tall.

5. Write a paragraph or two about what you have learned from this process. When you read, see, or hear a statistic in the future, what skills will you apply to know whether you can trust the result?

In your own words, a) Define robustness

In your own words, a) Define robustness. Robustness: Robustness is generally defined as the consistency of the phenotype despite environmental or genetic perturbation (Nijhout, 2002).

In your own words Define robustness

In your own words, a) Define robustness.
Robustness:
Robustness is generally defined as the consistency of the phenotype despite environmental or genetic perturbation (Nijhout, 2002). This implies either insensitivity or resistance to such potential disruption.
b) Define plasticity.
During their development, individuals with the same genotype may respond to their environments in innumerable and sometimes qualitatively quite distinct ways
c) Explain how robustness and plasticity are dependent on each other.
Robustness and plasticity are not polar opposites. On the contrary, plasticity is often regulated by robust mechanisms, and robustness is often generated by mechanisms of plasticity
d) Provide an example explaining how they are dependent on each other.

2) Researchers wanted to study the genetic component of learning to herd sheep.

They knew that one breed of sheepdog (breed A) had the more championship wins than the other and believed that their genotype would consistently produce superior herding skills. In order to test this, researchers raised sheepdog breed A in three environmental conditions. One, the puppy had an enriched environment with extra attention; in another, the puppy had a normal environment with an average amount of attention. In the third environment, the puppy did not have any toys or much attention at all. The researchers also raised sheepdog breed B puppies – one in each possible environment. The researchers believed that the puppies from sheepdog breed A would ALWAYS outperform the sheepdog breed B puppies. Later, the researchers had the sheepdogs compete in a sheep herding challenge.

The researchers had proposed a “reaction range” hypothesis. From what we learned about predetermined epigenesis and probabilistic epigenesis, do you believe the researchers were correct? What do you think would be a likely outcome?

I don’t think the researcher were also correct, they already have the bias toward this research, they already assume the conclusion, so they will try to use the data to suit their conclusion. Probabilistic epigenesis variables matter most when interacting together, not just by themselves. There is a lot of variable in this research. Environment can be part of consideration, how the owner practicing with them, did the owner train them to herd the sheep. Also, pre-determined epigenesis for this dog is these kind of dog have high energy, so they will always want to exercise and activity.

3)  Dr. Gagneux described humans as “the paradoxical apes”.

a)  Explain what we mean by “humans as paradoxical apes”.
b)  Provide an example explaining how humans are similar to and different from other primates.

4)  The concept of a niche is foundational in many areas of HDS.

a)  Define the notion of the human ecological niche.

Non-biological inheritance system. • An institutional sphere devoted to the making of meaning. • Rapidly evolving. • Transmitted in all directions:
• Human biology: profoundly embedded in culture and shaped by culture.

b)  Identify an example of the techno-cultural niche and explain the importance of this example to human evolution.

Shelter, control of fire, tool making, weapons, containers, lever

c)  Identify an example of the socio-cultural niche and explain the importance of this example to human evolution.

Share symbol, personal names, share rituals share representation, group identity

5)  Provide and explain two examples for why humans are both “biologically cultural” and “culturally biological”.

This is biological cultural
Our biology depends on cooked food. Also, our brain development depends on language input. Our skin can react to cultural norms. Culturally biological:
Our life history is shaped by and for culture.
Vast genomic landscape is slowly revealing key differences.
Opportunities for phenotypic studies of great apes are becoming increasingly rare.
