Paper will not be just a report presenting information but will be a paper that carefully examines and presents your own historical interpretation of the topic you have chosen and your interpretation of the information you have gathered.

The paper may include consideration of problems and solutions, definition of key terms, or may refute arguments against your thesis statement.
It will be important to choose a topic of interest to you.

Approach this assignment with an open and skeptical mind, then form an opinion based on what you have discovered.

You must suspend beliefs while you are investigating and let the discoveries shape your opinion. (This is a thesis-finding approach.)

You will use some of the following critical thinking skills in this process:

Choosing an appropriate topic, limiting the topic.

Gathering information, summarizing sources.

Do some preliminary reading on the topic(s). You may begin with the textbook, then further explore the information available. Refine your topic. Summarize your topic, your interest in the topic, the questions you want to answer, and a hypothesis you want to test.

Gather information from a variety of sources. Use a minimum of four sources for your paper, and at least one must be a primary source.

Primary sources are contemporary to the times under investigation.

An example of a secondary source is our textbook, though the textbook also contains excerpts of primary sources, which you may use as a source in your paper.

Outline the results of your research and the plan for your paper (you are not required to submit the outline).

Write the final draft and be sure to include a Works Cited List, and use the correct MLA documentation style.

Given composer or individual piece of music writing analysis

You have two options for the first essay (3–4 pages). You can either look to the political, historical, and social context of a given composer or individual piece of music OR you can develop your close listening skills by writing a detailed analysis of how cycles of tension and repose operate in a single musical work based on the rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic traits. Consider the following prompts for your first essay:
•           How is Hildegard von Bingen’s writing and composing radical for a woman of her time period? Be specific and be sure you discuss this in relation to the musical traits of one or more of her works. (you may consider works beyond those included in the course).

•           In what ways do Monteverdi’s madrigals or operas reflect the tensions between the sacred and secular worlds in the seventeenth century? Be specific about the musical traits that support your argument.
•           How do tension and repose operate across a specific musical work we have studied so far? Consider how the movement between tension and repose creates a structure to the work and how it emotionally engages the listener. Are these responses unique to the listener, or do specific musical traits elicit predictable responses in listeners? Do rhythm, melody, and harmony work together to create tension and repose, or do they sometimes contradict each other?
Additionally, you may draw on secondary critical sources, and those cited in the Study Guide may be particularly helpful. But using secondary criticism is not a requirement of this first essay.

Scenario analysis on conflict in a professional practice.

Here the scenario of the conflict:
In my career as a nurse, I have been faced with so many discordant situations, mainly by shift woes. I’m not a night nurse for sure, but, sometimes I would pick up a shift from time to time just to adjust the budget as we all do. One might believe that the night shift is better compared to the day shift? Complete dissatisfaction!

The shift woes, usually occur mostly when the outgoing nurse is giving a report to the incoming nurse, it’s an absolute disaster to witness how one co-worker conducts and leaves the tasks in a disorganized manner, regularly leaving the place in a confusing and chaotic state. In contrast, the day shift colleague may be upset and think that her daytime duties are more demanding than the night shift, but at the end of the day, the night shift does come with its drawbacks. As we continue blaming one another, it may cause disagreements, conflicts, and psychological torture

More details;

Labeling theory, in criminology, a theory stemming out of a sociological perspective known as “symbolic interactionism,” a school of thought based on the ideas of George Herbert MeadJohn DeweyW. I. ThomasCharles Horton Cooley, and Herbert Blumer, among others. The first as well as one of the most prominent labeling theorists was Howard Becker, who published his groundbreaking work Outsiders in 1963.

A question became popular with criminologists during the mid-1960s:

Firstly, what makes some acts and some people deviant or criminal?

During this time, scholars tried to shift the focus of criminology toward the effects of individuals in power responding to behavior in society in a negative way; they became known as “labeling theorists” also known as “social reaction theorists.”

In 1969 Blumer emphasized the way that meaning arises in social interaction through communication, using language and symbols. The focus of this perspective is the interaction between individuals in society, which is the basis for meanings within that society. These theorists suggested that powerful individuals and the state create crime by labeling some behaviors as inappropriate. The focus of these theorists is on the reactions of members in society to crime and deviance, a focus that separated them from other scholars of the time.
