Literature Review Table and Methodology Assignment Purpose:

Develop a method to organize the evidence (research articles) which will be used in your PICO paper.

The use of the literature review table assists the researcher to select the best articles to use for the literature review portion of the course during Week 7.

The literature review table also helps to more fully and efficiently understand the evidence collected as a whole by you individually and for your group to use during the upcoming assignments.

1. After reading the assigned readings (text and aticles), and viewing the Library Videos provided on Week 2 content on D2L, you will each (individually) complete a literature review table on the selected topic your group identified in Week 2. Each student will collect 3 (three) different types of articles on the group topic from the following research designs: 1 qualitive, 1 quantitative, and either 1 clinical guideline or 1 systematic evaluation.

Use the Week 3 Literature Review Table Blank Form/Template and the Week 3 Literature Review Example (below) to organize the information from the 3 articles you have found through your search of the literature. Journal articles used should be from within the past 5-10 years.

These articles will be found and reported in your table individually and should not intentionally be articles collected by others in your group. Your group will use the articles from your research to develop a strong PICO Poster during Week 7. 2. See Example of a Literature Review Table (below–helps to use a header within columns 4-6, e.g., Findings, Variables, Conclusions.).

In each section of the table, fill out the information requested. Columns 1 & 2 are descriptive of the article (use the information for your references at the bottom of the table. Column 3 includes the Level of Evidence and study design found in each article.

Articles will include: One Article from 3 of these 4 Levels of Evidence: Qualitative; Quantitative; and a Clinical Guideline or Systematic Review (for a total of 3 articles, one each of 3 designs). Column 4 will include the sample/population: list who the participants were, how many, how were they selected, grouped. Column 5 should identify findings, variables studied, study methods, results and limitations of the findings identified in the articles.
