Essay:

The essay should follow the formal guidelines of college writing; however, the tone may be less formal than if you were writing a research paper.  Write in a descriptive manner, but do not just summarize your visit—described your experience and what you learned about the historical site in a thoughtful essay.  Arrange your thoughts in coherent paragraphs, making sure you have an introduction and conclusion.

Questions to Address in Your Essay:

What kind of history is preserved in the location you attended?

How the history was presented to you; that is, was it a guided virtual tour, or where you allowed to explore by yourself?

Is there anything that should be added to the virtual tour?

Would you like to visit this site in person?

Further, What time period is the historical society/museum preserving (19th century, 20th century, earlier)?

What type of artifacts (that is, primary sources) are preserved in the museum?

Also, What type of artifact you chose from the Collection?  Why did you choose it?

Additionally, What is important about the artifact?  What does it tell you about the time period it was created?

Finally, and this is an important part of the essay, who/what preserved and maintains George Washington’s house?

Why should historical places like this be preserved?
